Permalink FS: Exotic EP-Booster-PRICE DROP!

New Topic

Like new. Very, very nice clean boost or preamp for your guitar rig.
Here's a description from the Exotic website...

What do the tones of renowned guitarist such as Page, EVH and Johnson have in common? They all used the legendary echo machine EP-3 as a pre-amp. We've captured that magic in a new Xotic Effects pedal, the EP Booster. We've used the highest quality parts available with a discrete FET design and low impedance output, the EP Booster provides up to +20dB of unadulterated boost with multi-dimensional, shimmering highs and lows, and no ear fatigue. The internal DIP switches let you choose the boost frequencies, and EQ settings.

BUMP! Still For Sale! Price Drop...$100 shipped!

Damn! I somehow missed this the first time around, and just last week ended up buying a brand new one for quite a bit more money - DOH!!

People this pedal is FANTASTIC! It adds a warmth and responsiveness to the tone that is simply gorgeous. Once I put this in my chain, I found myself playing with much greater ease and relaxation - there's just a better feel to the tone with it! I am planning on keeping mine on all the time from now on. (BTW, I won't be using it as a boost, but just as a little magic box!)

Xotic makes fantastic stuff...I have an RC boost and it's also on all the time.
Good deal on this EP boost

OMG Next thing you know, you'll be playing 10's!

Smile I do have three guitars strung with 10s, and even play them (around the house) quite a bit... OMG But the way I see it is that, since this is just the Echoplex preamp in a little box, I'm introducing an element into my signal chain that was already there with, say, the Atlantics or Hank (though, of course, not the actual Echoplex, but all those tape echo units had a preamp built in). I think it's the lack of the preamp that makes modern digital recreations of those old tape echo units not 100% - that was the idea with adding this little piece into the equation. So far, so great!

Coincidentally, I also picked up an EP. It really is an amazing little box.
So far, so great!

That's actually good reasoning, seeing that the good 'ol days didn't really have clean signals at all. These renewed testimonials are really tempting! (Ryan had originally gotten me interested in either the RC or the EP a while back, but I stuck with a transparent overdrive as I do occasionally like a pedal to produce a little more grit when needed.)

I am also considering for a long time now to get one. The are two versions:
V1 with internal bass and bright switch.
V2 with internal true unity gain switch and bright switch.

Do you have the one with a serial above 11012 which is V2?

As a long time Echoplex user, I can attest to the magic the pre-amp adds.
It's subtle but it adds a nice bite to the sound and is very responsive. Even if I didn't use any echo, I would still play through it for the pre-amp alone.

I have been using the Xotic RC Booster for a couple of years now. It's a must have for my Strat. Not so much for my Jazzmaster though. Xotic makes great stuff.

In the studio Chad Shivers let me use his Repeat Offender Delay pedal, ehich also had the Echoplex preamp circuit. There is a lot of truth to what everyone is saying about what it does to your tone. Just beautiful. Brian Setzer has used this trick for years as well.

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

Just played through my EP-3 this morning. The pre amp magic is always the first thing I notice.
I've played the EP booster as well and liked it, fwiw.

Oh man, been gassing for one over the past week and this thread isn't helping, I may have to check one out at the local GC this weekend, the 30 day return is a deal MAKER for me. Pedal GAS!

Brian Setzer used the Roland Space Echo RE-301 in the same way. The Nocturne Dynobrain is a RE-301 preamp in a pedal. Although, I don't think it does the same magic as the EP-3 preamp.

Picked one up from GC the other day, but gonna return it, I don't see what the hype is all about, of course everyone is allowed their own opinions. I feel that it's not worth the $116 bucks for a little volume pedal, it does add bass but I can get the same results turning up the bass and volume on my amp and playing with the knobs on my guitar for a boost. I dunno, I was expecting more, like a slight overdrive and something more flavorful than just a boost. Not bad for what it is, but way overpriced and overhyped (for me). Always turns out to be the culprit when I read forums for new gear and turns out to disappoint...

But hey, that's why I love GC, 30 day returns... Wink

I would open it up and check the dip switches, both switches should be "on" to get the full flavor of the pedal.
Recently I've switched to using the bright switch on and the +3db boost off, that way I still get the tone I want but without overdriving my amp which had been a problem at a couple of shows recently.

But I'd check it out before you total dismiss it, cause it really is a pedal that I feel I can't play without anymore.
If you don't like it that's cool too though.

I agree. In the 'vintage setting' (both switches off) it doesn't sound any different than an e.g. MXR Micro Amp, EH LPB-1, etc. I bought this pedal a couple of months ago and was very disappointed. Just like tubesNtweed I was wondering what the hype is all about. Then I put the switches on 'ON' and tah-dah. It really drives my amp and saturates the sound without altering it too much. It's an always on pedal now. Most of the times I don't use any other effects at all, which doesn't mean it won't work well with other pedals. Oh, and I don't dare to go any further than 10-11 o'clock.

Hi there,

if its a V2, I'm interested.. paypal?

http://www.theesonomatics.com

Hmm. I bought an EP and am not feeling any love for it in a surf setting. It adds too much bass and takes away some of the "bite". I could see where it might be the cat's Meow through a Marshall with a Strat for a Trower tone, or maybe even for a Van Halen vibe. For Surf though it just isn't doing it for me. Take my opinion FWIW though, I don't like the way the reverb tank dulls the attack and takes away gain so I often run it in parallel with my input.
