Permalink MARTIN CILIA & PAUL JOHNSON — two shows in So Cal: 3/9 & 3/11 2012

This is one of those “ya gotta be there” events...

A rare and special So Cal appearance by AUSTRALIA’S #1 surf guitar star, MARTIN CILIA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl0RiemtynQ ... Martin has been championing the surf sound down under as lead guitarist for the great Aussie surf band, THE ATLANTICS, and he is clearly one of the best $#&%*! surf guitarists to be found anywhere. (More about Martin below).

Now, for the very first time, Martin will be making musical waves here in California... there will be TWO local opportunities to catch his act — one in the LA area and one in Orange County — both featuring Martin and I playing together:

Friday, March 9 in Hermosa Beach — at SUZY’S Bar & Grill (1141 Aviation Blvd, Hermosa Beach). Tix are a mere $8 at the door; show starts at 9 PM. Also on the bill: Banned from the Beach.

Sunday, March 11 in Huntington Beach — at Don the Beachcombers (16278 PCH). No cover; show starts around 6:30 in the “Dagger Bar.” Martin and I will be backed in this show by drummer Dusty Watson and bassist Matt Quilter. Come early for a casual “meet ‘n greet” with Martin, featuring a jam session with Matt Quilter and his “wave machine.” (Pre-show activities commence at around 5 pm; note: Don’s serves excellent food and drink.)

I know, really!

Can one of these shows be live streamed? They are historic appearences. It would be a shame if the performances just vanished into thin air.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

I dunno about streaming,
but at least video recorded, and put on youtube later.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

For sure?

Can't make Sunday, but I'll be there Friday. Looking forward to it.

Might make the Sunday show. Sounds fun!

For the Sunday show,
show up early like 4 or 5 for a meet n greet with Martin.

there was talk of a BBQ, but with everybodys budget being tight,
it was decided that we just show up early and meet/eat there.

Matt Quilters Wave Machine will be first,
bring yer guitar and sit in on a few standards if you want.

show last night was amazing,
Martin is a downright great surf player,
not the shredder type some think.
and a great guy too, talked to him over an hour in
Billy's Motor Home after the show.

can't wait to see him again on Sun.

Martin was off the chain! Hot hot hot!

Be careful following the masses. Sometimes the "M" is silent...........................

last show today at 6

I hate that I have to miss this.

Hey PJ! Too bad airfare is so pricey at present. I certainly hate having to miss these shows. I'll guarantee that Martin will enjoy being on stage with you! Last year the opportunity to jam over at HBK's place is still ten toes over in my book.

You guys knocked 'em out this weekend, I just know it!

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

hey! no reviews or videos of this ?!?!? Man there must of been a dozen cameras in the room!

Anywhew, I thought it was pretty fantastic, video came out good and will post after I get Chrome oxide's audio.(and Martin/Paul approves)

Thanks Martin for coming through town and I thought Paul/ Dusty/ Matt provided the perfect accompaniment.
