I'll never get my reverb tank if this keeps up, but this record is a must-have. Count me in.

Let me say a bit about this comp. It was inspired by two mid-‘90s comps: “Beyond the Beach” and “Instro Nation.” These CDs did a great job spreading the word about the contemporary surf music scene by featuring a wide variety of modern original surf music, from the most traditional to the highly progressive, side by side, effectively demonstrating the creativity and breadth of modern surf music. My view is that the current state of surf music is remarkably vital and I thought that a compilation might be a good way to communicate this fact to people that may not be fully aware of it. The goal here is to turn the novices and casual fans onto many bands with whom they may not have been familiar, while also giving the hard-core fans a collection that they 1) would greatly enjoy listening to even if they have a lot of the songs already, and maybe more importantly, 2) a CD they could share with friends or family to show them why they love modern surf music so much!
It was a real bear to select only 20 bands since there's been soooo much great stuff released over the past few years. We ended up selecting from only the post-2008 releases, and by bands that are active, gigging, recording and trying to make a difference, no matter what part of the world they come from. I personally am completely thrilled with the tracklist, and have been listening to it over and over and over without getting sick of it. Such amazing songs!! We also have a small team working with Sean that will really try to promote this comp beyond the usual sources, and see if we can introduce more people to our little scene - which despite its small size is bursting with creativity and fun and camraderie!
While working on this comp, it really struck me that we seem to be riding some kind of a new wave since '08. After a relative lull in surf music between, say, '01 and '07, it seems to again just be exploding with great new bands all around the world. Our hope is very much that this comp can stoke those fires and raise the awareness level. And my personal hope is that many SG101-ers will consider buying a few extra copies of it to stick in the Christmas stockings of their loved ones! What greater sign of love could you show???
I very much hope you all like this comp even half as much as I do!

I am very much so looking forward to this comp.
and I am willing to help in anyway I can, to spread the gospel of surf.
And to get copies of these cds into the hands of possible new fans,
or older fans that may have gotten lazy in looking for new surf bands.

Haha that lineup looks a lot like the compilation I was dreaming up a few months ago. I haven't been able to really get that together, but for the goal of pointing my listeners towards some modern surf groups, I'd have no trouble recommending a lineup like this.

Hah! Make it happen, Ivan! My avatar is from a tour shirt they sold in Hawaii (most likely during the Powerslave tour, it looks like the mummy Eddie on the front):
I hesitate to call these shirts "vintage", having had many of them in the 80's, but I guess I'm officially vintage now. Sigh. Wish I had kept my old Maiden shirts, you would not believe what they sell for now. (Sorry for the derailment, I am totally buying this comp, the unreleased tracks especially make this a no-brainer.)
