Permalink Questions Needed For Tremolo Beer Gut Interview In Next Continental Magazine

New Topic

We'll be including an interview with Tremolo Beer Gut in the next Continental Magazine. Do you have a question you'd like us to ask the bands - if so, send it to: records@dblcrown.com. We'll collect questions until November 10th or so. We'll send out a free Double Crown CD to one randomly chosen person that sends a question to us.

I know you said to send to you, but I am also posting it here, to bump the thread.

Where did they get the name?
I know its probably pretty obvious, but thought I would ask.

Are their older cds still in print?
I need 1 of the first 3.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Do they use vibrato or just tremolo?

Any beer recommendations?

Their recordings are generally slower than surf music, with little suggestion of fast motion. They sound like Link Wray in a tiled room, giving me an impression of "hold your ground and fight" rather than surf. What do they call their music type?

I heard a recording on an El Rey album that sounded just like Tremolo B.G. Did Tremolo B.G. know of this and what do they think of it? Are there other imitators?

What gear do they use for delay and reverb?

Thanks guys - keep 'em coming!

Who is their favorite band?

What do the think of Beethoven?

Do they appear on any soundtracks?

What do they think of the renewal of "Beavis and Butthead" series?

Does TBG brew their own beer?

If so, what do they call it?

Are there any "secrets" to your unique sound ? (like guitar brands, amp types, effects, particular recording locations ?).

Favorite movies? Soundtracks? Can't wait!

Can we get a list of their complete discography, and labels they were released on please?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

What kinds of hats do they like to wear?

What kind(s) of strings do they use?

If they could have a Fender Bassman or Marshall which would they choose?

This crowd is really surf-centric, though we're all aware of other types of instrumental music from different places and eras to some degree or another. Did Tremolo Beer Gut start as, or was it intended to be a "surf" or "surf-inspired" band at all? If not, did surf factor into the band's influence? How about other types of rock 'n roll, and from what eras?

Are there any other instrumental bands living or dead that you guys like or follow?

Who's the primary song-writer?

The Mystery Men?
El Capitan and The Reluctant Sadists

Well, if you are referring to El Ray, I can answer that. Yebo, TBG drummer, produced and mixed El Ray's Tick...Tick...Tick... (2004). That's probably the album which got beautifully Yebo'fied.

Hey everybody. Yebo from The Tremolo Beer Gut here. Writing on an iphone while touring with the band so sorry for the sprllign. We answered a lot of the questions to the piece in Continental magazine, so you can get the skinny on the TBG there. Here I'll just answer to the stuff that I think didn't get in there.

  • the first 2 albums are currently out of print. Check vibrashop.com or the shop on tremolobeergut.dk. If it's not there it is probably very hard to get except from second hand.

  • the guys use both vibrato and tremolo for recordings. Live it's mainly tremolo

  • thanks for the hold your ground and fight remark Smile i think it sums it up : as Matt Verta-Ray put it: Do NOT f*** with The TBG. Haha.

  • as the mighty El Twang also said, I produced an album with El Rey and they let me take their own original songs in a grittier and more textured direction with a lot of extra dubs. That might make it sound more TBG but hardly make El Rey immitators.

  • there is only one band in the world, eh? The Tremolo Beer Gut is everybody's favorite band.

  • Beethoven? We are kind of on a "nodding to eachother when we pass on the street" basis. Friendly but not close. I hear he's getting into darker stuff in his late period, gotta check it out some more.

  • dunno about the guys but I was never a B&B fan. Didn't have Mtv back in the day and don't watch it now.

  • we leave the brewing to the pros. We did contemplate doing our own label and bring as band merch but thought club owners might be nonplussed about competing sales of beverages.

  • moviewise I am a fan of Lynch, Jarmusch, Coen Brothers, Tarantino, Von Trier ... oh the list goes on. Regarding soundtracks John Barry is boss of course. Mancini, moricone, schifrin.

  • favorite European country... Tough question. We have friends in many countries and that flavors the opinion but I guess France and Italy are high on the list due to the cuisine and wine. Beerwise NOTHING beats Belgium.

Hey gotta run for now. I'll be back.

Thanks for answering some of those,
and welcome.

Thanks for the info!

Hey again. Now safely back from a great tour of Northern Europe. Some more answers:

  • why the same album cover? Hmmm, the band always had a lot of dogma from the start. It originated in that first (and only) press photo we did. When we got it we thought: let's not do any more. This sums it all up. Likewise, we did the first 7-inch (the green one) and then an album (the red one). The material were from the same sessions, so we used the same picture but changed the colours and a lot of the other designs on the artowrk. Afteer that it was decided that this would be an interesting - or at least original - path to just follow all the way through. As the album titles are quite long it is also convenient to just refer to eht yellow, white, orange, blue, red, green one.

  • it feels mighty fine that someone thinks we have the coolest band name EVER.

  • head wear: cowboy hats have benn worn a lot on stage. I have also sported a fez from time to time. When we toured Russia we got some nice big fur hats. They look cool but are super warm!

  • I've no idea about the brands but I think they both use 0,10s - maybe Nalna uses 0,11s.

  • why choose? Nalna's set up is actually a Bass Man top and a Marshall cab!

  • the band is certainly a ssurf band in some kind of way, but not straight surf as it was played way back when. I guess the original surf sound was very upbeat and happy and optimistic, and we have that element too, but through later bands and composers (especially John Barry is a big influence here of course) it got darker and sexier and more dangerous. It was taken from the beach and into the coctail lounges, strip clubs, intarnational espionage, western movie scores, under belly gangster jazz. And such surf influences are found in so much music in all eras since then. Our take on the surf genre is probably much more inspired by the bastardized surf sounds. As our rercent all covers album show you find it in The Pixies, Tom Waits, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Sonic Youth etc. etc. We like a lot of different stuff. Also the great original surf bands of course.

  • over the years I have been the primary writer since in the beginning it was split pretty much 50/50 between Sune Wagner and myself with Per Sunding contributing a few songs for each record. On the white album Nalna and Sunding contributed more with songs, so on that one I guess we almost wrote 1/3 each. In any case: whoever writes a tune always brings it to the band for Tremolofication and it's more often than not greatly enhanced. sometimes the tunes are ready to go and nothing is changed - except when we then record them and get ideas for dubs and different new themes played on a zither or an organ.

I guess that covers most of what's not in the next issue of The Continental. Be sure to pick up a copy and get all the other stuff from everybady in the band and not just me.

Thanks for the interest!

Yebo
