One of the best interviews I've ever seen of a guitarist! Thanks for posting this! I don't know what I enjoyed more, the interview segments, or the guitar playing at the end. Seriously, though, all through the first 4 interview parts, I kept wondering when they were going to go down to the guitars. Then when they did at the end, it was the icing on the cake. Awesome! And bookmarked as well! This is a must for any Shad's fan.

Just read through the e-pages and started the very first interview video. Clearly, I'll need to make a lot more time to watch them all. Great find! Thanks, Ivan!!!

Do make the time for it. It's VERY very good! I watched them all and it seemed to me like it only took about a half-hour. It was actually like 2 hours. I watched segments over again too. I guess I'm either a huge Shads nut or I just found it incredibly interesting. I think it's both!

Yeah - I realized I was going to need A LOT more time when that first video started up and had a play length of like 20'ish minutes. Will definitely find/make it sooner or later.

You're very welcome, guys! I found it on the Shadows music discussion forum, and still havent' watched it all myself. Hopefully today.
Bruce is THE BEST!! My Shadows tribute band the Troubadours played Shadowmania North America events in Toronto in 2001 and 2003, with Bruce present at both. I had a chance to talk to him for a long time both times, and he was just as down to earth and nice and friendly as could be!! I actually get the warm fuzzies just thinking about it now. After the 2003 show finished at 11 pm or something, a small group of us went to the hotel bar and stayed there until about 3-4 am, just chatting away. I was fortunate to be able to get a seat next to Bruce, and continued to pick his brain for most of that time. Poor man! But he was a great sport, and didn't seem to mind at all. Here are a couple of photos from the night before, as we were getting the stage ready for the show the next day, with Bruce letting me playing that famous first Strat in the UK, used by Hank from '59 until '61, on all those early hits:
my dad and Bruce chatting behind me in the above photo. In the below photo, they're to my side:
Here's the guitar - estimated to be worth half a million British Pounds!!
Speaking of my dad, he's a HUGE Bruce fan. He's studied Bruce's style as closely as anybody, and does an amazing job replicating it. And he even looks like Bruce!! You can see him in action in some videos in this playlist (check out Geronimo, Sleepalk and FBI in particular, shot just a couple fo weeks ago):

Anyway, long live Bruce Welch!! One of the all-time masters!

Man, what a great interview...thanks for posting! Yeah, you need about an hour and a half to get through the whole thing.
Ivan, I like that picture of you with the Strat and the huge grin.

Ivan, you are a lucky man! I am so happy for you that you got to experience that. And it's awesome that it still gives you the warm fuzzies talking about it.

Thanks, Don and Matt! The huge grin seemed the only appropriate response to the circumstances. And yes, Matt, I do consider myself extremely fortunate to have had a chance to experience all of that. The Shadows have been such a huge band in my musical development, and really in developing my very passion for music in general, that chatting away with Bruce seated next to me seemed completely surreal.
It should be said that Bruce is always extremely generous with his time, and makes himself available to the fans frequently and completely unselfishlly. Anybody that's attended the Shadowmania festivals in the UK (organized and produced by Bruce himself) knows this very well. I believe one was held just last weekend!

You're quite welcome, Ivan! I'm just really happy for you. Bruce IS such a great guy. It really shows in the interview too and the interviewer did such a great job of it. I feel he really gets into an informal-type chat and really warms up to him and comes across as genuine. EXCELLENT job! I must say, being the huge Shadows fan that I am, I would MUCH rather meet Bruce than Hank. I think Bruce made the band more than Hank did and this interview is solid proof of that. And, A-minor is one of my favorite chords as well...lol.
I'd have had the same expression next to that Stratocaster too. Awesome! This made my day, Ivan! What a life-experience for you!

very insightful and interesting interview by Bruce. I've only watched half of it. It was very enjoyable.I absolutely love the Shadows music. Hank and company have written some of the greatest melodies on guitar I think. Thanks for sharing Ivan. I've watched the videos that were shot of you just and the Troubadours recently and enjoyed them immensely.

Thanks again, Matt! You're totally right about Bruce. I highly recommend his autobiography, which was fascinating - warts and all!! He really doesn't hold back at all. (I think it actually played a role in damaging his and Hank's relationship for quite a while in the '90s into the past decade.)

I just bought the book from Amazon. Funny, I bought it for $0.51 and the others available were all for $188 and above! Thanks for the tip and recommendation!

I just finished watching and reading, excellent! We need more like Bruce in this world. Another big thanks to Ivan.
The Roy Buchanan also caught my eye and the video shows how he made some of those amazing sounds from a plain Tele plugged straight into the amp.

Wow! fantastic - I've loved the Shadows , and I've loved Bruce Welch since I first learned the lead to Apache and thought "you know, that rhythm guitar part is cool too, I should try to learn that", only to realize that he is a fantastic player with way more to offer than simple rhythm guitar parts. - a great interview, with tons of great info. Bruce's guitar drives the Shadows songs, and it wouldn't be the same group if he wasn't there.
I also love the fact that he absolutely idolizes Buddy Holly! I've always thought that surf music owes a bit to Buddy, and Surf owes a bit to the Shads.
