Sears Silvertone Model 1445 Mosrite Ventures Copy

According to the interweb these were made by Teisco for Sears. Are they a viable find if in good shape? I have a friend who has one for sale and I'd like to snag it if it is worth having... Thanks! I never played the 1445 but the pickups look just like my '66 Hagstrom III, and those were alright. Not strong, not weak, just alright. Top

The only major drawback is the vibrato, which won't keep the strings in tune whether you use it or not! I once played some James Brown-style grooves on my Teisco, and by the time the song was over, but the low E and A strings were flat by over six steps! I've heard tell you can get better springs for those boogers nowadays, to maybe there's hope yet. One other thing to know: All Teiscos have a tone knob that's wired backwards. You think you've got it turned all the way up, but instead you'll have it turned all the way down! I actually skipped buying a few really nice guitars, not knowing this important detail ("Sure it looks cool--but it's so muddy! Nothing at all like your Teisco, Bob...."). --Crispy Top
