Permalink Help: GFS Pro-Tube Lipstick pickups or Fender TEX-MEX?

New Topic

Hello everyone¡¡ Well, taking advantage of a friend I've finished painting a Squier Standard Black and Chrome in nitrocellulose "vintage" white(if the guitar is no longer look anything like what it was ... heh, heh. ..)....
Well, as I will change all the electronics (potentiometers, capacitors, wiring, etc ...), in addition to a GFS solid brass tremolo block ... well I decided to change the pick ups, as which is standard, but did not sound bad at all seemed very "harsh" ...
My question is between these two sets of pickups:
The ones I shoot are these Pro-Tube Lipstick GFS Danelectro pickups style but designed to fit into a convencional stratocaster pickguard. The reason why I like it is because I've seen a few videos on YouTube and they sound very good. .. besides, another reason why I shoot it because I have a Stratocaster (Squier Classic Vibe 50) with AlnicoIII strotocaster pickups, an Eastwood Saturn 63 with P90 pickups (also GFS), a modified Squier Jagmaster Fender Jaguar pickups and IndieIRK5(Rickenbacker 330 imitation) with minihumbucker pickups ... or so I have guitars with different pickups and sounds ... that's why I attract the GFS Lipstick, and I have no guitar with this type pickup .... By the way, Stevie Ray Vaughan had a Stratocaster with Danelectro "lipstick" pickups... I leave a link so that you can see:

The other I have seen are a Fender Tex-Mex pickups ... I have heard these opinions for everyone ... What I strip to the back of them is that many people agree that they are a bit sharp or "shrill ".... Here I leave the Link:

If it's any help and give you an idea ... I want them to play quiet Blues and "surf music ".... The guitar to which I am going to put it is, as I said before,a Squier Standard Stratocaster with" agathis" body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and 011-52 gauge strings. The amp that i use is a Peavey Classic 30 and i use a lot a clone of a Tube ScreamerTS808 manufactured and hand-wired by the member of a forum for my country, Spain and a BOSS FRV-1.
You tell me and thank you very much in advance¡¡¡ A greeting¡¡¡

I've got Kent Armstrong lipsticks in my Reverend Spy, and Dano lipsticks in my Dano 56-U2. They are GREAT sounding pick-ups. I haven't heard the Guitar Fetish models (supposedly hotter than regular lipsticks), but I've heard good things about their other pickups. I like that they will fit into a strat pickguard without having to cut larger holes. The price is very inexpensive.

I've got a strat with the Tex-Mex pickups in it, and they sound very good. i do not find them to be harsh sounding.

I'd probably go with the lipsticks for something with a similar but different tone to the strat pickups of which you are so familiar. If they had a no-hassle return policy, it would be a no-brainer (I do not see provisions for non-defective returns). Tex Mex's are good pickups. I'm prety sure that you would be happy with either choice.

Good luck!
