Hi everyone!

After listening to El gato and The jetster by the Chandelles I was awed by their playing and sound but I haven't been able to find any other songs of theirs.

Have you guys listened to any more of their stuff? Any information on where I can find something more then these two songs?

I wasn't familiar with them, but I'm listening to El Gato right now, and it's really something special!

And on Lost Legends of Surf Guitar, Vol. 1.

Some notes on band in YouTube comments. Says New Mexico.

EFP21001: I was a member of the Chandelles and owned a rock and roll place named the Hut in Ruidoso, New Mexico from 1962-1974. The band members were Tom Potter, Frank Potter, Billy Clayton, Bill Gross, Ricky Cox.

Have you looked them up in Blair's discography?

I think I remember reading that both those songs were recorded at Norman Petty's Clovis, New Mexico studio. I'm pretty sure you could record a fart and make it sound good there.

El Gato is a great song -

"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been"

According to John Blair's awesome book, The Chandelles released only 2 songs, Jetster and El Gato. As Chris said, they recorded at Norman Petty's studio with Norman Petty producing. The band was from Portales, New Mexico, and Tuck has the members listed as per Blair's entry on the band.

you might want to give this CD a listen

http://www.amazon.com/Thats-Swift-Instrumentals-Norman-Vaults/dp/B000UX43X2

it's called 'that's swift' and has some pretty cool tunes on it including the two you mention.

Yeah good one Carol. I didn't know about this comp. It looks like another winner from Ace Records.

Great band! SP recorded at Norman Petty Studio too, but with less stellar results...

(Had no idea they'd have only done 2 cuts, guess I gotta spend more time with my copy of Mr. Blair's work)

It's a pity they have only recorded these two songs Sad

They were very promising, imho they could have made it into the big scene.

I was mining the first volume of Lost Legends of Surf and like everyone on this thread am really digging The Chandelles. I googled the band to find more info and came across this thread....very cool.

I also wish they would have recorded more tunes.

Benny from the Volcanics was in a band called 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in Las Vegas. They covered "94 Second Surf," but when I first heard it, I didn't know that.
