That is cool. I've just been recently watching a bunch of Johnny Cash performances from the late 50's appearances on Town Hall Party and others. I order them on Netflix.

Here's one from THP. I was really digging Luther's white (blonde?) Jazzmaster. Given the year, I was guessing trans blonde, with maybe the gold anodized guard swapped out for a black one. Good look at 2:07

I see many Jazzmasters and Jaguars from county music clips from the early sixties particularly.

I love that song... its one of my favorites on the hellbenders cd... along with the rest on the cd:)

P.S. i want a JM sooooo bad.. BUT i know it will not make me a better player:( so that keeps my cash in my pocket

I wanna play just like him when i grow up...

here's another clip of the same song, in '58.... Big River

Huge reverb and Jazzmaster sound - kind of a pre-cursor to "Pipeline"

I've always thought Surf and Rockabilly were related...

It's a thread about Luther Perkins playing a Jazzmaster, not everyones inability to buy a JM.

Personally, I don't mind the sidetrack into JM purchase, but I do think there is more to be gained here than that.

Not only a Jazzmaster but a Mosrite being played by the Square Dance band down at the Silver Dollar City fair in beautiful Branson MO!!!!

If I'm not mistaken, Luther Perkins has a Jazzmaster etched into his gravestone, which I thought was odd, since while he did play one at some point in his career, it seemed like he eventually went back to a Telecaster.

"We're lousy, we can't play. If you wait until you can play, you'll be too old to get up there. We stink, really. But it's great," Johnny Ramone .

More famous for playing the Esquire of course, but he was one of the many musician consultants visiting Fender during the Jazzmaster's development. He was also part of the late 50's 5G..6G amplifier development begun in 1957. Soon these amps would become the Brownface Fender amplifiers.
