You know, a friend at work once said to me, "Black metal is just Surf with a distortion pedal"

He certainly was on to something, and I have to say that I Am Black Wizards cover is tasty!

The melodies work quite well as evil surf tunes. Nice job!

Wow, a form of heavy metal that I actually don't loathe or find laughable. The surfized stuff was cool, but even the originals are okay. Could use a few less 'Rowrr, rowrr, rowrrs', but I can comprehend why someone would dig this. Thanks for the post!

Metal expert Warren didn't exactly seem to like this at all, haha...

Recently a listener sent me the link to Cromlech. Now I am very curious about who produced these black metal surf tunes and their "history". Does anyone know?

Thanks,

First part of that's debatable, but the second part sure isn't.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

It appears to be some sort of parody thing, a la "The Masked Marauders", but he's using the names of real metal bands? In the description for the youtube video though, the "real" names of the band members are taken from the crew of the Enola Gay. Ah. I just saw that you put quotes around the word "history". Indeed.
I suppose it's more entertaining if you're familiar with the original Black Metal versions of the tunes, which I'm not.

Even so, it doesn't suck. Kinda' reminds me of Fender IV before they've had their coffee.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

I actually don't mind the "I Am The Black Wizards" one myself. The guy's obviously just having a laugh, but I think these metal crossovers might have some potential for those more seriously into surf. I'd love to see a Slayer cover on the next Madeira album, haha...

And Laughing Laughing re: his description for "The Grateful Dead Shreds" video:

.......People who don't get this should get lost and listen to Justin Beiber or something. Seriously this IS music. The Grateful Dead is music. This is maybe like the 2nd best version of this track from their 1972 US tour. Their best version is obviously 3/2/77 if you can get the full soundboard recording. I was at that gig. I hitchhiked down with my brother and it took us 4 days. We bought 5 tabs of acid in the parking lot and it kicked in right when the band went from Jack Straw to Candyman. The best Straw-Candyman transition is obviously on the 5/4/73 tape from their early show. Anyway Jerry was blazing that night and they played for like 6 hours. My bro and I couldn't hitch a lift home so we slept in the parking lot with a couple from California who had ridden to the gig on bicycles and it took them like 2 months. It was amazing. The version of Saint Stephen from that night is totally awesome, Phil is dropping bombs right through it and when it goes into that Cop Killer jam at the end its really awesome. You can hear the crowd light up at the end of that if you get the audience tape of that gig. I had to trade a guy 4 Phish soundboards to get that tape but its awesome. If you get it you should spark up a big fat one and like totally drop out. When Ripple comes in from that Straight Outta Compton jam they did back then with Bobby playing around with that '2 of Amerikaz most Wanted' riff it is glacial man. Glacial...........
