Jim Messina & The Jesters was RE: Getting out of a rut

Brian Neal (xarxas) - 16 Jan 2002 17:51:35

Where can one obtain this record? I've heard many good things about it. I
think it has never been reissued or put out in CD format.
Thanks,
BN

If you really want to improve your surf chops, get your mitts on the
Jim Messina & The Jesters record and practice with THAT every day for
a couple of weeks. Guaranteed results!

-Brian,
Get this cd, it is available, It's on the surf lable. It is a 2 fer
cd with Adrien and the Sunsets feat. Ron Egglit(Dick Dale's)bassist
on guitar. The first is just so so. But the Jim Messina and the
Jesters is a landmark album of the 60's. A must have.
Go-Boy records in Redondo Beach Ca. Has it.
Hope you can get one.

Thanks again Jeff. Is this a legitimate release or a bootleg?
I went to and he doesn't even mention this period
in his timeline. He doesn't even have an email address listed either. I
would like to ask him about his surf stuff.

Brian:
I think that this is a legit release - I seem to remember hearing
about it before . . . I've been trying to track down a copy of this
record. Never had any success with Internet searches in finding it -
thanks for the tip, Jeff! I checked out the Go Boy Records site this
past weekend, and they do have it in stock (yes, I ordered one . . .)
I'd try to grab a copy, Brian. Zak Izbinsky has mentioned it to me
previously, and I trust "Dr. Zak's" prescription for healthy surf
guitar - he hasn't ever led me wrong (thanks, Zak!). You may also
want to take a look at Zak's "Big Hollow Twang" site - he has a
showcase of some of his favorite players (surf and non-surf, but all
good!) that's worth a visit - I've discovered a few new favorites
there, myself. Check it out at:
Somewhere I saw/heard that Jim Messina prefers not to reflect upon
his youthful work . . . I'll reserve my own opinions on how it
stacks up to his more "mature" work until I get the CD (although I
have an idea of how the story will end . . . )
