Hey,
I just got back from a 4 day jaunt to Denver Colorado.
Sandy and I want to post a thank you for those who
reached out earlier last week, suggesting bands and
people to look up, making our trip to Colorado
memorable and surfable. From the list, I'd like to
thank:
Dusty for some band contacts
Boulder Bob from the Beloved Invaders
Chris from the Aquasonics
Dave M. for being a fan of 9th Wave from way back
Unsteady Freddie for also suggesting bands and for
phone contact while in Denver
Unfortunately for us, the Aquasonics had a show
scheduled for Friday night, but we didn't arrive in
town until noon Saturday. Next time we'll have to plan
our trip a little better.
Boulder Bob and his Beloved Invaders
( ) were playing a
private party on Sunday at 5:30 pm. He gave us the
address to do some snooping around in the bushes, but
actually the hosts were big surf fans and very
welcoming, so we got to sit in the backyard and catch
the music. The Invaders ripped it up with classics and
originals. To our surprise, Chris, the guitar-player
from the Aquasonics ( ),
was filling in on bass (Fender Jaguar Bass VI). Bob of
course sported his '59 Jazzmaster. Towards the end his
playing got dynamic and show-y, something you'd expect
to see on a big stage, not a backyard BBQ. Nice job,
"Boulder Bob"! (We were surprised to find out that
Boulder Bob actually hails from the North East - MA,
to be exact.)
Unsteady as it may seem, I got a call from Unsteady
Freddie (NYC) while in the parking lot of the Denver
Circuit City store. He made me promise to call him
when I was with Boulder Bob, which I did. Brotherly
love can travel on the wireless network, and positive
connections were made.
Monday morning I got a chance to hook up with Dave M.,
originally from the DC area, where he had caught 9th
Wave at the Tattoo, and then at Sleazefest in Chapel
Hill NC. Although he was on a morning coffee break, it
was nice that he took the time to meet with me.
He gave me a promotional CD of his current band, the
Palisades (not surf - indie rock). Dave is the bass
player.
It would be great if bands all over the U.S. could
band together and have reginal show posting pages so
that whenever I travel I can find all the cool surf
shows (such as the North East Surf Music Alliance
"Upcoming Shows" page at).
If you're passing through Denver, definitely look up
these bands and post to your favorite list(s) when you
get home.
From the east coast surf side,
Mike, 9th Wave
