I stand corrected (though I did say "production" which
is not the same as "birth of...") and thanks for the
info. My recollection was that the Rhodes was "stuck"
in R&D in the '60s, with Harold Rhodes producing some
"educational" models (or prototypes) in that
timeframe. I had no idea of the "Silver Top" models
available then. As the timeline confirms though, the
Rhodes piano didn't really "take off" till the
introduction of the Suitcase and Mark I Stage pianos
at the beginning of the '70s.
I've some fond recollections of using a '70s Suitcase
Rhodes for some jazz gigs/rehearsals in the late '70s.
Despite being called "Suitcase", it was one heavy
sucker that required two people or a handtruck to
move. The thing fit nicely in the back of my '74 AMC
Hornet hatchback coupe though....
