Voting has started for North Sea Surf Radio´s Album Top 101

North Sea Surf Radio was already doing groundbreaking work with compiling and broadcasting the Classic Surf Top 101 and the Surf Revival Top 101. Now, for the first time in history the surf music scene is to compile another ultimate list in surf music; The Album Top 101, the best 101 Surf Revival Albums as voted for by the listeners of North Sea Surf Radio and the members of the Surf Guitar 101 forum.

Everybody can submit their 10 personal favourite albums from the Surf Revival Era (1979-2013). Records released this year are excluded from the list. With all the contributions the team at North Sea Surf Radio will compile the Album Top 101 which will be broadcasted on April 20th, presented by DJ Jonpaul (Surf Guitar 101) and DJ Phantom (North Sea Surf Radio).

People can help decide what the best instrumental surf music albums of all time are by adding their Top 10 to the Surf Guitar 101 forum in the following thread.

Another option to submit votes it to send an email with name, country and the Album Top 10 list to TOP101@northseasurfradio.com

The deadline for submissions is Friday 11th April.

Please note:

  • Albums are releases with at least 5 different tracks or over 25 minutes of music.
  • NO 2014 albums allowed.
  • NO "Best Of" albums allowed.
  • NO Various Artist compilation albums allowed.
  • NO Single Artist compilation albums allowed (b-sides, single collections etc.)
  • If an album contains some vocal tracks this is not a problem as long as the majority of tracks are instrumentals.
  • The order of the albums DOES matter, the number 1 will receive the most points in the Top 101, your number 10 will receive the least points.

The Surf Zombies 4th CD is out! It's a...THING!

The Surf Zombies are riding high on our new cd It's a....THING! It is currently available on cd with Deep Eddy Records and downloads. It was very fun to record. We spent a few months running through the material and playing it live before we gathered at Ian Williams studio and laid it down live to tape. We used only 7 channels to keep it as minimal as possible and it was a great experience. We have a new bass player named Trevor Treiber and he plays a Dano through an Ampeg. He really rocks! He mixes super hard hitting Ramones style with wicked odd riffs and brings his A game to every gig plus he is extremely prolific with writing new songs. He also plays in a band called The Blendours.

The Surf Zombies are working towards releasing It's a ...THING! on vinyl.

3rd Annual WINTER SURF FEST January 18

3rd Annual WINTER SURF FEST
Saturday, January 18, 2013
12 Noon - 7PM

The Starting Gate
5052 Katella Ave.
Los Alamitos, CA 90720

While the weather in Southern California might be getting colder this time of year, it certainly doesn’t affect the spirit of the thriving instrumental Surf Music scene. For the 3rd year in a row, the organizers responsible for one of the largest Surf Music events of the year, the Surf Guitar 101 Convention, have assembled some of the world’s best contemporary live Surf Music bands for an incredible seven-hour extravaganza of reverb-drenched guitar goodness.

From the San Diego area comes Jason Lee and the R.I.P. Tides, a hard-edged trio that will be promoting the debut of their first full length LP on Dionysus Records. From Northern California comes the masters of traditional Jewish tunes gone Surf, Meshugga Beach Party, complete with beards, outfits and shtick. In a special reunion performance comes San Diego’s The Sand Devils, who bring their unmistakable brand of dark and ominous Surf. Local San Gabriel Valley favorites The Volcanics will don their trademark sweaters, take the listeners into a 60s time machine and perform many of the newer tunes from the recent release of their second album The Lonely One on Double Crown Records. Out of the ashes of one of the most influential of the 90’s Surf revival bands, The Ghastly Ones, comes Boss Fink, a Hot Rod-themed romp including former members of The Huntington Cads. And, rounding out the bill comes the day’s annual opener, High Tide, an all-star band featuring some of the best veteran players from the scene including members of The Torquays, The Planktones, The Reventlos and Insect Surfers.

In addition to the exceptional talent on stage, the event will feature a shopping area spilling over with specialized vendors selling Surf Music records, CDs, posters, t-shirts, books, magazines, musical instruments and other related accessories and collectibles.

The venue offers a full kitchen and bar throughout the show, so prepare to settle in, relax and enjoy an entire day of some of the very best pounding drums, throbbing bass, and dripping with reverb twangy guitars anywhere!
