Surf Zombies play International Pop Overthrow in Chicago Saturday April 21

The Surf Zombies are playing the International Pop Overthrow at The Redline Tap in Chicago Sat. April 21 at midnight. Usually this fest is focused on power pop acts, but David Bash decided to ask The Surf Zombies after hearing their new cd "Lust for Rust". SZ guitarist Brook Hoover will also be sitting in with Chicago band Swinger for a few songs, re-uniting this group of friends who played together at IPO in Liverpool in 2004 at The Cavern Club. Chicago surf guitar fans should stop in an meet these guys. Ian Williams is the other guitarist of the group and he plays a USA Jazzmaster while Hoover plays a Japanese Jaguar with a recently installed Mastery Bridge. Drummer Tyler Russel and bassist Joel McDowell round out the band. "Playing with this line up has been thrilling. These guys know their stuff, are young and full of energy. Total music nerds, my kind of guys" remarks Hoover who started The Surf Zombies in 2004.

The Good The Bad kick out the jams with Wayne Kramer at SXSW

Instrumental Danish psych-surf trio The Good The Bad jetted into Austin, Texas to play eight showcases in and around SXSW in March, and played a very special show in collaboration with Wayne Kramer, legendary guitarist of the MC5.

On their last USA tour in 2010, The Good The Bad embellished their affiliation with the Jail Guitar Doors charity (having previously appeared on the soundtrack of the charity’s ‘Breaking Rocks’ documentary), as the band played alongside Billy Bragg, Chris Shiflett
(Foo Fighters) and Wayne Kramer (MC5) at the Strummerville/Jail Guitar Doors showcase.

Upon seeing them for first time, Wayne Kramer described The Good The Bad as “an incredible new band” and this time around, both joined forces and locked axes together at Roky Erickson’s Ice Cream Social 10th Anniversary show at Threadgills, Friday 16th March to play 'Kick Out The Jams'.

View video here.

Later that evening, Wayne Kramer led the charge at the Jail Guitar Doors official showcase at the Swan Dive with Tom Morello and other special guests. Jail Guitar Doors is a non-profit program that provides musical instruments and opportunities to help rehabilitate prisoners.

“Jail Guitar Doors is the loudest charity on earth.”  Wayne Kramer

Wrecking Crew Documentary Coming Soon

Hi,

I was just turned onto this very cool site and wanted to introduce myself and my documentary.  My name is Denny Tedesco and I am the director of the film, The Wrecking Crew.  I'm new at this so forgive me if I mis-step in regards to blogging or sending out news.  I noticed the documentary has been mentioned a few times and I wanted to let you know that we're not giving up an hopefully the film will be out this summer.

We are having screenings around the country in the next month or so.  Vancouver on the April 15th, Phoenix on April 17th and then to Philadelphia on April 25th and April 28th and 29th.  One of your readers from Philadephia turned me onto Surfguitar101.com so I'm hoping we'll get to meet many of the guitar players.

This is my labor of love.  My father was guitarist, Tommy Tedesco.  If I can figure out how to send a picture, I'd love to share the photos we took of his Telecaster that he worked with on the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, Marketts, Routers, T-Bones and so many more recordings.

Please take a look at the out takes on www.wreckingcrewfilm.com

Best to all of you who play and love the music.

Denny Tedesco

In the last decade, the band from Wiesbaden, Germany released four albums, shared the stage with the Peacocks, Turbo ACs, Fifty Foot Combo, Slacktone and Los Straitjackets and played more than 300 concerts in Europe and the USA.

Time to have a party!

When: 11.05.2012
Where: Schlachthof Wiesbaden http://www.schlachthof-wiesbaden.de/
Doors Open: 20.00
Showtime: 21.00

THE RAZORBLADES

…sound like Dick Dale on speed, the Pulp Fiction Soundtrack in turbo mode, like a car chase on Highway 101 with loud punk rock on the radio, 120 mph and no seat belt attached. The three piece from Wiesbaden,Germany combines the classic sities surf sound with neck breaking speed, wild feedback noise and a colorful range of influences. You can hear the American power pop of the Cute Lepers as well as Agent Orange’s West Coast Punk, and the Ska of The Specials. A fun evening is guaranteed!

THE PHANTOM FOUR

Phantom Frank conquered The Netherlands with surfband The Treble Spankers in the late 90's. In the slipstream of the success of Pulp Fiction the band scored an airplayhit with Red Hot Navigator, played all major festivals in The Netherlands and sold 25.000 albums. Since 2005 Phantom Frank plays all over The Netherlands with his new band The Phantom Four. The band opened for Dick Dale, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, G. Love & Special Sauce, and plays at major festivals like Lowlands and Paaspop.
