Please help promote the Brave New Surf compilation via our Kickstarter Campaign

Submitted by DannySnyder on November 25, 2011.
Surf Scene News

SurfGuitar101 and Double Crown Records join forces to create new surf music promotional campaign.

As many of you probably have seen by now, a brand new compilation album is coming out - Brave New Surf. What you may not know is that the impetus behind this album is twofold. First, to present some of the very best surf bands playing today. Secondly, to use this compilation as a promotional tool to expose new audiences to this great music. Double Crown Records agreed to print up extra copies of the album with the sole purpose of sending them out to music reviewers, websites and magazines. But to do this will take extra funds. Packaging and postage costs add up quick, thus we came up with this Kickstarter project.

Please go to our Kickstarter page and check out all the premiums and make a donation if you can. Absolutely 100% of all funds donated will go towards the promotion of this record and if we're successful this may lead to more releases. If you can, share the project on all your social media and email all your friends. This is our big push to get surf music out into a more public consciousness and our success depends upon you.

Remember, there is a limited time for this campaign, it concludes on Friday Dec 9th, so we have to reach our goal by then.

Jim Thomas (Mermen) Solo CD "Blues of Elsewhere"

Submitted by RobbieReverb on November 23, 2011.

Greetings friends of Mermen. "BLUES OF ELSEWHERE" is a new CD featuring a collection of the slower, ballad-like MERMEN tunes in a dreamy/sleepy mode. Each song is performed as a guitar duet (electric and acoustic guitar ). The idea for this recording was to offer a softer, ambient-like, intimate listening experience.

The CD will arrive from the factory DEC 15th - your orders will arrive before Christmas.

You can preview you the CD here. Buy it now here.

Site News

Finally after a loooong break we're back with a brand spankin' new surf music podcast. This episode features songs from albums that have been released in this year 2011. It's been a stellar year for surf music releases as this podcast will prove. There have been so many albums released that we're going to finish the list with the next podcast. Also on this episode is an interview with Don Wilson and Bob Spalding of The Ventures. This interview was conducted earlier this year by Rich Derksen aka Pappa Surf - Thanks Rich!

Nokie Edwards / Venturesmania CD release party Dec. 3 in Burbank!

Submitted by DekeDickerson on November 01, 2011.
Show Announcements

Hello gang--

Just wanted to give y'all a heads up on an upcoming show featuring NOKIE EDWARDS of the Ventures, along with my tribute band VENTURESMANIA and many more special guests!

Venturesmania (myself, Garrett Immel of the Ghastly Ones, Mel Bergman of the Phantom Surfers/Go-Nuts, and Chris Sprague of the Sprague Bros/Go-Nuts/etc.) have recorded a great new album with Nokie Edwards, entitled "BOUND AND SIDEJACKED AGAIN!"  We're proud to say that it sounds like a great unreleased 1965 Ventures album, and if you dig the 1960's Ventures sound, you will love this new album.

The CD release party (and your first opportunity to buy this great new CD) will be Dec. 3rd at Joe's Great American Bar and Grill in Burbank, CA.  The show will get started around 9 pm, admission is $15.  No advance ticket sales.

Come see a genuine legend up close and personal!  A great night of guitar instrumental rock and roll!
