I just pulled a name out that I didn't get to talk to. You get the general idea. If you don't think it's worth bothering we won't do it.

its all good, we can do your list thing.
but we should also make sure everybody has a name tag on too.
I'm pretty sure Tim had one on.
its just frustrating as hell to talk on stage and not have people listen to what
I'm saying.
And reading ticket after ticket for the raffle was very monotonous also.

As far as the announcing mic ...PA wasn't really loud enough but was too muffled from where I sat on house right.

Another big thanks to Jeff and everyone else involved for their effort in putting together such an excellent, over-the-top weekend of surf music!
From the venues, the bands performing, the friendly and talented people involved, the excellent weather - I can't imagine a more perfect weekend.
I just got back to the Bay Area late last night and still have a huge smile on my face this morning. I'll be on a high the rest of the summer, and am already looking forward to next year.

Yup.
I had a great time. Awesome music: my highlights were Secret Samurai, Ghastly Ones, the Surge. They were the best sounding trad surf I've ever heard. Also seeing Warren and Ryan again was cool. But I agree with a few others; more time to just hang around, meet and converse. Maybe some people just spinning records? I don't know. I'm not a sadist like Jeff; I get tired of surf bands pretty easily. And I play in one.
The jam was cool. That should definitely be kept.
Thanks again for everyone who came and provided the gear (that drum set sounded and played great!).

And a lot of us were in the merch room doing lines... I mean, perusing, the merch and couldn't hear any "announcing". Hence, a lot of raffle tix were tossed.

siiiigh.....
well I got a report that the mic on stage left was much clearer than the one I was on, so that will have to be corrected for next year. I could hear myself fine, and nobody said they couldn't hear me. So I assumed everything was fine.
And also having a speaker in the vending room, and also a pair of speakers back towards the bar area.
will help make sure that the announcements are well heard.

yeah enough of the negativity talk.
I'm depressing myself.
the turnout was great.
180 paid attendees.
total headcount with the band members and vendors was probably around 250 or so.
thats easily 100 more than last year.
I was afraid with the Ghastly Ones on the Bill that we were going to exceed the 311 total occupancy limit.
maybe next year.

Wow! The convention was absolutely spectacular. All the bands kicked ass and it was a special honor to have witnessed The Surge. Eddie K. was simply inspirational.
I raise my glass high to you Jeff, thanks for putting your ass on line and making this happen, you truly are "keeping surf music alive". Also thanks for including me in the jam, it was a real privilege to play with The Detonators.
With so much going on I only wished I "schmoozed" a bit more, ten hours just flew by fast so I apologize if I didn't introduce myself to y'all. (It was great to finally meet you Brian!)
This is the beginning of something real big Jeff, keep working your magic. I'm just glad to be a part of it.

I took my daughter, had invited 20 somthings from work. They said they wanted to drink but did not want to listen to surf music!!! She said she would go & did not complain about the music at all. She did complain about the food & drinks tho.
She was really impressed by the waitress in the black shorts literally running from table to table to serve everybody.
We were planning on the royal dive. Got a call to go climbing in Big Bear SUNday so we skipped Oceanside. bed!
5am & watched the pros bolt 5.9 to 5.14 routes while we failed the 5.9. bouldered & bed. Monday daughter asked if I was tired after I nearly backed over someone in the crestline subway shop. MY reply "Hell ya" (worked a full day monday)

Jeff Utterback telling us about the Hot Wheel they made of the race car he drives & how his kids still think he's not cool no matter how many musicians & race car drivers show up at his house.
That's too perfect.

Forget a thread - Utterback needs his own sub-forum, just so we can keep track of all the bands he plays in/has played in.

Or maybe a thread on who you'd rather be for a day--Utterback racing nitro burnin' funny cars all day & playing drums in a surf band at night, or Norm making movie monsters all day & playing drums with the Ghastlies at night?

This week-end was a mind blower. Sat.'s sg101 convention was, without a doubt, the best gig I've ever witnessed and played.
Great people, great bands. Good times. Everybody kicked ass.
Jammin' with Abdel, (my Shadows buddy), mom surfing, moondevil, and the almighty BTD was a complete blast.
Sharing a stage with Bob Spickard, Dave Wronski, and Don Boomer, (Seeds), all in the same day was quite the experience.
Good times indeed.
You be the man Jeff.

Hey Billy, Thanks so much to you, and Rob... your fellow Detonator, and to "Cool Hand" Jeff Utterback, for playing a couple of tunes with me! I had a most excellent time.
It was just great to see all the great bands, and all the nice people Jeff Tiki assembled for our pleasure. Great hang.
