I had this conversation with myself before i got the showman, I picked what came. If id had a choice id prob gone with wheat...I ended up with oxblood so i am now forever bound to oxblood. Now that i have it i think i like it better. Its earlier, that fits my vintage snob platform. ehhhw yours is a 63 not a 62 (ha ha! JK) I tell ya what, the night i brought both of the piggy backs it was a pain in the ass, the cabs dont have wheels, two heads in two cases, two cabs, one of is loaded with newer JBL's and that cab weighs 100 pounds, a reverb unit in a case, a guitar and a box full of mearch. Give me reverb or give me death! |

I never get sick of looking at that picture... it's getting a bit harder for the average consumer to find such good stuff though, and the vintage gear worth having (ie. well-maintained over time) is top dollar now. I'll continue keeping an eye out in the year ahead, but my thinking is that going with Dario will guarantee good tone for not much difference in price. (And if we're talking a "good enough" Hallmark 60 vs. a vintage Mark I, a BIG price difference... gear snobbery 0, fiscal sense 1.) — |

I hear you, for me, I like that they are different and don't have the "names". Ever slightly different styling and has the looks. Thats a big draw to me. AND they are both small business up against the mighty "F", who I also love but just like something different —Peace to you, not on you |

Before i found my showman i was all set to buy a surfer. I still would like one. cant beat the 5 year thing. Before i got the mosrites i looked pretty hard at the hallmark. Give me reverb or give me death! |

I agree...or go brown. There's rumour (in one of the Fender amp books I have) that a limited number of brown tolex piggyback amps were made (one shows up in a Fender advertisement). That would by far be the most rare — |

I actually thought about Surf Green Tolex, but that would be way over the top. But still...... ballsy. But I think it would look good in a Combo —Peace to you, not on you |

"Ballsy" colors tend to hinder the resale (even though you'll probably never want to part with it, just something to keep in mind), I'd definitely keep it traditional blonde. Tweed wouldn't even look that good on a piggyback and I actually love tweed, my $.02 anyway. — |

I think if the faceplates were brown l would go for the blonde/oxblood combination. That said the blonde/wheat combo looks the best to me with the black faceplate. The wheat will darken over time, but will continue to look really cool. |

I have had a few customers ask me about the exact same thing and it is a possibility. Surf Green would look cool. You would need a matching tank though. — |

Hi guys, I noticed Mojotone has a few different oxblood variants. Can someone take a look on their site and tell me which one is the closest to Fender's original 1961 oxblood grill cloth? Thank you. —MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. |

Wow, I see your quandary. This going with a blonde? I'm curious to see what the experts say. I can only judge on the oxblood used on my Gomez and none of the Mojotone stuff is close; the interweave looks all wrong (zooming over the photo to magnify at their site). Stuff I've got that Dario used is the oxblood interweaved over what appears as a strongly black background (makes it very dark & rich), vs. the equal proportions of oxblood black that Mojotone has. This place has something I think is even closer; but I don't have any blondes in my stable. (Maybe an excuse to drive over to Dave's & look closely at his '61 Showman package.) Tagged; maybe I'll learn something. Where's that Eddie guy when you need him? —Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. Hi Badger, the tolex will be rough blonde, also from Mojotone. I will just get the closest oxblood that they offer, it doesn't have to be an exact replica. I do appreciate the information you have provided. —MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. |

Sounds like a cool project pics or it never happened. I'd just take a close look at the underlying weave; I would think you'd want the darkest underlying weave (understand ordering from one place), so in my view it would be this one. —Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. |

Thanks for the link, Badger. I definitely want to order from only one place. And yes, before and after photos are definitely coming. I just bought my first vintage amp, a '77 Princeton (non reverb). I'll start a new thread when the project begins. —MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. |

COOL! What a great project amp. That non-reverb Princeton gets loud a long ways. You might have too much fun. Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. |

I've used the Mojo oxblood in the past, and it's not quite the same as the real Fender stuff. It's lighter burgundy in color. It didn't match a reissue Fender tank I had at all. But, it looked okay when I used it on a head and cabinet combo. I liked the real Fender stuff I got from Angela Instruments the best. I haven't used the cloth from "Speaker Supply" on ebay, but it looks slightly better than the Mojo cloth in the pictures, but it might be the same for all we know.
