They contacted me about a show, and I listened to there myspace stuff and liked them, so I thought I'd give 'em a shot at the big time. They are from Oakland and gig around there a bit. Listen to their stuff and judge for yourself. Pretty creative in the trio format. —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

Here's the latest PDM email blast. News about a couple shows at Forbidden Island, a rundown of the Surf Battle, and the announcement of the (as yet unnamed) International Surf Music weekend happening in the Bay Area in early August. —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

For those interested, I'm announcing that Pollo del Mar has gone on infinite hiatus. I hate to use the words "Broke up" because we didn't decide to break up, we just decided not to play together anymore (unless something really cool comes up). Damn adult responsibilities!!! Jono went back to grad school, I got a new job, Jeff got a more demanding job. This kind of thing happens. Anyway, we had a great 18 year run, not bad for 4 guys with families and jobs. No regrets, well, maybe a few- I wish we had been able to record a final CD and tour more. I will be carrying on with my main gig as guitarist for The TomorrowMen. And, in exciting news, Frankie & The Pool Boys will be be recording a new CD very soon, we have 2 Bay Area shows coming up with Naotaka Seki, and we will be going to Europe this summer for a tour. To anybody who ever was a Pollo fan, we appreciate your attention, patience and bravery. If you have a second, please join Frankie & the Pool Boys on Facebook. —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp Last edited: Feb 25, 2012 09:16:40 |

Ouch!!! This hurts as much as Phil Dirt's retirement! It was a GREAT run, and I'm thankful for all the PDM gigs that I got to see over the years. Hopefully there will be frequent "something really cool comes up" occasions. —Bob |

I think we can count on FERENC's "omni-presence" in the modern surf genre. Glad at least that you'll still be making and performing exciting music. You are IMHO one of the top-shelf guitarists and innovators out there. UNSTEADY FREDDIE — |

Pollo has been not only an inspiration to us all, but the shining beacon of the Bay Area surf scene, the light to which all us surf band moths flocked to. There'd be no distinct surf music scene if not for this incredible band. We are all indebted to them and hope they find a way to return in some manner or incarnation in the future. Meanwhile, the TomorrowMen are shining brightly with the addition of Lazarus Longfellow to the crew. As Ferenc said, we're busy working on a Frankie album, which includes not only myself on guitar but Tmen drummer Tony on bass. Without giving too much away, I can honestly say I expect this to be a major 2012 surf music release, filled with lots of interesting and varied music, much like the first. Definitely lots of surprises on there as well, stay tuned... —Danny Snyder Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

Well, you eluded to this some time back, but it still stings a bit! I'm at least glad it was a mutual decision, and that you've left the future open to a possibility of some more of PDM's magic. I'm really excited about your future with the T-men and a new Frankie album though! — |

Very sorry to hear Ferenc! Pollo has always been a standout for me in the surf music world. Always doing their own thing with their own distinct sound. Very original. I never really considered them a surf band. They were much more. I can remember the first time seeing you guys live when Surf Report came up to San Francisco to play at the Hotel Utah. I was absolutely blown away. We've played together many times since and they've always delivered live! I still think The Golden State is one of the best surf rock albums with 7 Sisters, 7 Seas being one of my favorite modern surf tunes. All great musicians and great people. Pollo will be sorely missed. I certainly will miss sharing the stage with this great band! Good luck to all the Pollos! —Ryan Last edited: Feb 25, 2012 10:53:36 |

Pollo del Mar is a truly great and inventive band. Hopefully we will hear more from them down the road. Golden State really is a monumental record. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

That is a shame, but keeping a band going for 18 years is truly admirable. It was great meeting/hearing you all at Surfer Joe a couple of years ago! I'm sure the Frankie & the Pool Boys will keep us all happy. Rev —Canadian Surf |
