Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll buy it. Those things aren't exactly sitting in every shop window in town. And to be philosophical about it, $400 in the bank is not going to mean as much as that red SGV in my room.

I just scored a black SGV 300 off Craiglist for $250 plus shipping.

Right on, baby! But that $400 SGV doesn't seem quite so reasonable anymore. I have to haggle him down or get him to load me up with extra stuff.

I paid $150+shipping for mine on craigslist.
Would I buy another one for $400? Yes, absolutely, with no hesitation.

I paid $500 (255 GBP) for mine +40$ shipping. It was immaculate condition and came with a Yamaha hard case. Worth every penny I'd say. As someone said earlier, there aren't enough of them around for the prices to be consistent.

I have a black SGV300 with SGV800 pickups (similar to Mosrite pups, I am told) in a white pearl pickguard that I might be willing to sell. It's in good shape. PM me for details.

I just bought a black SGV as well.

800 or 300, Jake?

I emailed Ishibashi Music and they sent me a reply saying that the SGV-800 in particular had been discontinued. I asked for that model in particular, so I don't know if that applies to the rest of the series.

Thanks, Jamie. I'll let you touch it at practice. Very Happy

I was wrong. I was wearing a black shirt and looking at an SGV...

Pfft. I broke the bridge on my 300 when the vast majority of you in this thread were wearing short pants.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I'm wondering where you guys are finding all these black SGVs? The colors in the catalog are red, pale blue, and yellow. No mention of black!

Looking around on the web, I've found a few references to SGV colors (here's one) http://www.barryrudolph.com/ingear/bottomline/sgv.html
and it looks as if black has been in the line up for a while. Zak, do you maybe have an early catalog, with the black being added later?

....it's like the lottery...... only better.

In case anyone was wondering if this thread would have a happy ending, it's time to unfurl the Mission Accomplished banner. One metallic red SGV300 now sits on my couch!

Couldn't get the guy down from $400 as he'd already reduced it once, but he threw in a Yamaha gig bag, the 'missing' whammy bar, a pack of Slinkies, some patch cords, and a black webbing strap (exactly what I wanted, except for the Fender logo, but beggars can't be choosers). Next stop: raised pickups. Thanks to all of you who weighed in with the SGV advice. Time to go plug this baby in again. Yamma-dabba-doo!

You still got a good deal man. I've always been one of those people that can't justify a frivolous purchase unless I'm practically STEALING something. I bought my first SGV for $250 and my next one for $275. After getting the jones again I kept searching but could never find one going for much less than $400. That's just the going rate these days. I lucked up on my Craigslist find for $250.

Great Deal! Enjoy, My next purchase is going to be a 300 for sure.

That's great, 'cause I'm pretty sure my next guitar will be a Mosrite! Wanna trade? Wink

That Yamaha is a great look for a Surf guitar!

It's a nice colour.

I think they're still available in Japan, and they also had a couple of models that were never exported: The outrageously priced Terauchi signature "Blue Jeans" model, and the SGV-700 and the SGV-1200, "upscale" versions of the SGV-300 and SGV-800. Shigeo of the Surf Coasters played the SGV-700 (you can tell 'em apart by the gold hardware).

thanx, zak!

may be you or somebody knows, what other differences in SGV-700? and what is the part of the SGV guitar in this hige sound of Shigeo, that I like a loooot!:)

The SGV owners, could you easily get the Surf Coasters sound with them?

Whold be really greatful for answers!

I may have one (SGV) for sale soon. A pink one that someone won from a game show.

What day is Surf Rock's birthday? Looks like Surf Rock and I was born the same year. Maybe we are both Libras?
