I don't understand everyone's myspace-bashing.
We've gotten shows we never would have gotten otherwise.
...met bands/fans we never would have met otherwise
...made cd sales we never would have made otherwise
Of course, we were fine before myspace, but it's definitely helped our band...and the fact that it's FREE doesn't hurt as well.
Yes, there are people that abuse it...spammers, dopey kids, dopey adults...if you have a bit of computer savvy, you can avoid all of that.
So myspace rulez!!! OMG FTW WOOT WOOT!

I like myspace. If I hadn't created a myspace page I wouldn't have friended Tiki Tena and discovered cool happenings like Tiki Invasion and Deke's Guitar Geek Festival and Los Straitjackets playing three sets at an unannounced fairground gig.
I met Big Tiki Dude, Markenstein and others through some of these events.
Myspace was created initially for bands to network and I guess it still works.
It's basically a flyer without the paper.
Thanks Myspace.

Hopefully the third time is a charm!
I think Hip Hop fans of the other Neptunes hacked my last two attempts.

EXACTLY!!!
When My Space was new, I had friends want me to join. I checked it out and thought it was stupid. It looked like a popularity contest to me. I denied many requests.
A few years ago, I found out that it was Satan's Pilgrims only "website" and quickly joined. I figured out that I could spread a lot of information very quickly about shows, new releases, etc. When I joined, there were only about 50 bands calling themselves surf, and not all of them really were surf. Now, there are many bands on My Space. I wouldn't have known about them otherwise. When I find bands that I've never heard of, I let them know about SG101 too. I think information gets around more now thanks to these sites.

I've come to like Myspace as a concept but not as it's implemented. It's extremely spam friendly, the audio player is a mess and the site often just doesn't work. It does bug me that a lot of bands use myspace as their only website, but now it's a necessary evil and I've benefited from it. I got a lot more listens for my radio show once I started posting heads ups
And of course those doubled whenever Tena would link them. She's got that whole thing down

I still wish that bands would have a e-mail contact listed on their myspace.
and a link to all merch available

Here's an interesting MySpace site called "Martin the Celtic Surfer":
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=408596335
Sort of an "in honor of surfing" "labor of love" site, music and other media included.

There was a new post, but it had nothing to do with myspace and got deleted.
On a tangent: The Internet Archive has published a large collection of songs from MySpace recently, so if one is looking for tunes by bands, who are no longer around, it's possible you get lucky here:

"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!
