Permalink Struggling Musician Podcast

Hi guys, I have started a podcast called The Struggling Musician. I would love it if you would give it a listen, but it would be even better if some of you would call/text/email the show.

I have already played one of Samurai's tunes on the air, which received positive feedback. I will be happy to play your bands music as well, and tell the audience where they can find you.

This podcast was created to highlight the reality of being a musician in todays environment. Most of us only see the glamorous side of their favorite band on social media, but I wanted to discuss the side that is rarely talked about.

I have been told not to do this show, as it could/will make me look bad in a number of ways. I responded by stating that I am not the only struggling musician out here, and I want to give others a chance for their voice to be heard.

I am running this site/show on a shoestring budget, so please spread the word. You can check it out on Apple, Spotify, or by going directly to the website listed in my signature. Thank you for reading this, I really appreciate it.

Can’t wait to give it a listen.

I generally like this idea, we have a lot of stories behind our shining guitars. I just hope it will be positive and constructive and not just telling us how cruel and unfair this world is, we all know it well.

We are struggling means we are alive and kicking!

That's a really good idea for a podcast. I think with social media we put forward an idealised image and of course we're having fun on stage so people don't see the reality, the less pleasant parts. I think some honesty is refreshing so I will give your podcast an eager listen.

I appreciate the kind words. Unfortunately, I had to put the podcast on hold. I was not getting any interest, and having a podcast does cost real money, and is very time consuming. I was NOT expecting to have thousands of listeners right away, but I wasn't even able to crack double digits. Maybe I will pick it back up if there is enough interest. Again, I really appreciate the nice words.

I think it takes a long time for people to catch on, you have to be putting out consistent content for a while but obviously that's a drain on your resources in the meantime. The thing that put me off doing my podcast for a long time was the editing which was very time consuming.

The other thing is a lot of the big podcasts are by people who are already known/celebrities etc.

I understand why you've put things on hold, For what it's worth I enjoyed all the episodes you put out so far and will keep following in case you start it up again.

Guess we also need Struggling Podcaster Podcast!

Just joking. It’s a slow curve usually and demands a lot of efforts and inspiration. Would be great if you find it later. I also stopped my surf blog last year cause I have totally no resource in me and also very little response.
But we have tried and struggled! That’s important.

Podcasts can take a long time to get going. I've been doing my main show for over six years now and still only get a few thousand listens a month. But I do it for the same reason I make music - I just love doing it.

Not cracking double digits after just a month or two isn't huge surprise. There are so many podcasts out there, and so many ears, it can be difficult to build a following. You just gotta stick with it!

You guys are very kind, I appreciate all of your honest feedback and advice. I'll update this thread if/when I start the podcast back up.
