Permalink Elixir strings

New Topic

I recently played a guitar strung with elixir 10’s and man they feel and sound great!

Anyone on here use them?

I wish they weren’t so expensive, but they’re supposed to keep their brightness for longer than other strings?

I've used them on my acoustics, I sort of like the "coated" feeling, and they do sound really nice and metallic/growly. Have not tried their electrics - I mostly use tomastik these days.

Elixir electric guitar strings feel smoother than other roundwound strings, and they wear down my guitar picks less. However, their wound strings often break on my guitars, while other strings do not break. When one of the strings breaks, suddenly I feel an identity crisis about them: I can't get a replacement single string and I don't want to throw out the rest of the set, so I replace the broken string with an ordinary string. This leaves me feeling entirely uncomfortable with Elixir strings.

Elixirs are indeed good quality strings and they last long, but personally I do not prefer them for clean sounds. They sound too metallic/bright for my taste. I think they are pretty good for high gain however.

I believe Dick Dale was using Elixirs.
