My wife gave me this CD as a gift - she said "the reviews mentioned a lot of bands I know you listen to" which means I'm playing way too much surf music or at least telling her way more than she wants to know about it
This is a really fun CD, about 70 minutes or so of music. I don't know how people would classify it genre-wise, but it's not exactly traditional surf, nor is it strictly modernized surf, either.
No matter what, it's fun!

You stumbled upon one of the very best US surf bands from the 90's. It's Ivan Pongracic of The Madeira's first band. It's not only considered surf music, it helped define what modern surf music sounds like. Ivan combined his love of The Shadows and The Atlantics with the traditional surf music, and with his advanced guitar technique and a killer rhythm section, created 2 of the most important albums of the genre. So enjoy!

The Space Cossacks, and The Madeira have certainly created a lot of fantastic songs.

The Space Cossacks are a Virginia based band that is probably my favorite surf band and one of the best of the modern surf era. I worked and lived around Mark English, their Rhythm Guitarist, when he was auditioning for the band. Ivan Pongracic incredible lead playing along with a strong supporting cast created a synergy as a unit. Very good songwriting and arrangements.
My first surf band, Reverb Galaxy, was heavily influenced by the Cossacks, and Mark helped get us started. So a great band, you can't go wrong going to Bandcamp and getting their stuff.

I've listened to the Madeira, it's a bit different in the songwriting and style, but if you like Ivan's lead work, then they are another to check out. I haven't made my way to Lords of Atlantis, but probably worth checking out. I know that Jeremy from the Aqualads is in it. Aqualads - Another great surf band, and definitely in my top 5!

Space Cossacks are awesome, and I'm sure everyone will agree with me that Ivan is not only a talent, but one of the nicest guys there is

This band was one my major influences when I decided to make surf band in 2007. It was a real pleasure to meet them personally in Livorno in 2018 and watch them live!

I'm hugely disappointed to know they're from Virginia, because that means I missed a lot of chances to see them play live since I live in Virginia! (and have since 1984)

At least take comfort that you stumbled upon them yourself (wife... the same). How joyful it must be to discover an amazing band without any pre-knowledge, only to find out that they're a modern classic.

Ivan is a world class guitar player, and from what I can tell he is humble and down to earth as well.

I'm sure you're getting the message about The Space Cossacks by now, but just in case, have a read of this thread, and the article linked in the first post.

Your wife has quite an excellent taste in music, and I'm just wondering, uh, well, has she got a sister....?!

thanks for the link
yes, she has got a sister, but don't be too eager - my wife is SUPER into folk music and Broadway shows ... so consider her to be attentive to what I listen to rather than having great taste herself
