Hey all-
I just put out an album of space age pop.
It's called Imaginary Movies - it's influenced by Latin jazz and space age lounge music, b-movies, spy movies, "noire" and mid 20th century popular fiction.(pulp fiction) There are swanky horns, hipster beats, and twangy Bond-style guitars along with eerie theremin.
Think of it as a vinyl record with a side 1, and a side 2. Just put it on the HiFi, relax on the Davenport, and go on an adventure - in your innermost mind. This is the soundtrack that will take you there. Headphones recommended. It's a double feature:
Dancing at the Fountain -
A little romantic, a little ghostly, a little exotic too.
Dr. Telepathik (episode 1, the Distant Diva) -
Spies and surf boards, a car chase, a mad scientist, and a faraway siren song.

It's by no means straight up surf! The first 6 tracks are pretty jazzy, the 2nd 6 tracks are over surf drum beats and sound a bit like a spy movie, especially the last track "Car Chase"

I hope you enjoy it!

I like it! Reminds me of a late 60's / early 70's TV drama! Thumbs Up

Thanks dude! I really just wanted to make people smile.
Driptones! Sounds like you could be from my Hometown (Portland - it's wet here)

Very creative I really dug it.

what are you using for all that drip?

hey thanks all!
you know it's funny I wasn't sure who was going to like this album. There's a lounge side to it that must be a Tiki bar Smile and a few surfers wandered in too. All hangin' on the same beach...

cheers!

New video. This one's called "Car Chase".

A bit of Ennio Morricone. per sapore

Love the songs you've posted!
Not Always What It Seems" seems to have some New Wave influences(?) Devo, B-52s, Gary Numan?

Another fan checking in. Love the instrumentation and vibe on both of those tracks.

Perhaps I am showing a narrowed appreciation for the breadth of Morricone’s body of work, but in Car Chase, my ear picks up more of what seems to me nods to The Moontrekkers “Night of the Vampire” and/or The Frantics “Werewolf”. Also great references and influences, IMHO!

And if the soundtrack music wasn’t tasty enough, the videos you’ve created for both are really great too.

Nicely done and thanks for joining and sharing these with us! Look forward to whatever else you may create.

Thankyou very much!
@PolloGuitar I love the B52's and I graduated in 1982. Good ear!

@Fady I always think of Morricone because of the first time I heard baritone guitar - as a kid at a campground somewhere - the good the bad and the ugly Smile Although it could be Monty Norman (Bond) too.

At some point next year I'm putting together a "continued adventures of Dr. Telepathik" (the last 6 tracks of this release are "Dr. Telepathik" --the more surf-y tracks)

One thing I dig about the classic surf guitar vibe is that there's a contrast between the "proper" melodic quality that it has (it ain't jazz - it has corners)The early bands sporting jacket and tie, like our brothers in soul - all this against a certain bad boy image too. I think that's why it works well for spy movies. I'm going to toss in some more beatnik elements as well - ala Faster Pussycat - Kill! Kill!, which I just watched - part of. heheh. Great music, horrible dialog.

Ok I'm from Portland, and one time the smooth Jazzy band I was in opened up for Satan's Pilgrims. As I recall they wore cub scout uniforms. (1991-ish)
