Picked up a 2020 G&L Doheny in my favorite surf guitar color: Surf Green!

Got it at a good price off of Reverb. First impression was good! Well made, fit and finish great! Tuners seem solid. After a few setup tweaks, plays well, nice neck. I can see (well, hear) why people have said it’s in between a Jag or Jazzmaster and a Strat. Just sounds different. I like it!
certainly sounds surfy tome. I’ll play it for a bit and try and post some sound clips at a later date. In any case, I certainly love the color and will keep pickin’ away!

Cant wait to hear. I have been looking at these for a while now.

The demos I’ve heard seemed good enough. I would agree, that it’s sort of its own breed, with some Jazzmaster character, but also some other sonic DNA, as well.

Agreed. It's been described as having that "STRAT" vibe. The top end does, to me at least.

I was thinking of replacing the pickups with Fender Pure Vintage '65 Jazzmaster pickups. Anyone have experience with this replacement? Work out well? Worth the change?

G&Ls and fantastic guitars and their MFDs are in a league of their own. I don't think the Doheny is much like a Jazzmaster at all but what it is has a lot of value and use.

That’s not bad, at all. A lot of Surf was played on Strats, so a guitar with a bit of Strat sonic DNA should sound good.
