I just picked up an Earthquaker Devices "Special Cranker." It's an update of the "Speaker Cranker" basically a really cool overdrive. I'm still trying to figure out what all to do with it, but it really does a good job on the Link Wray type dirt. Anyone else using one?

Link Wray just turned his amp up to get that sound. No pedal is needed if your amp can crunch at higher volumes.

sure, but the point of the pedal is to not be beholden to the amp volume. besides, clean headroom rules!
