James Wilsey... El Dorado. I call it desert noir twang. Very Southwestern in feel, drenched in reverb, slow and moody. Hard to find, but on Apple Music and iTunes. Anybody playing surf guitar ought to hear this release.

Check out The Ventures. They have a few famous “surf” tunes, but the overwhelming amount of their output - some 250+ albums - are instrumental renditions of popular music. They have a bunch of obscure gold. Gemini and Meet Mr. Callahan come to mind.

I’ll second The Ventures. They really were a driving force. By strict definition, they weren’t a Surf band, but they did some Surf tunes, plus a lot of other material. The Shadows were a British group, quite similar to The Ventures, in some respects, but there material was different.

There was an earlier mention of Wes Montgomery, and he’s definitely one of my guitar heroes. Johnny Smith was a wonderful player, who was considered a Jazz guitarist, but also had a degree of classical influence. Basically, I always considered him to be a plectrum classical player.

Chet Atkins is always worth a listen, and there have been any number of good Country players that did instrumentals. Buck Owens’ Buckaroo is a fun instrumental, and not all that hard to play. Jimmy Bryant did some great, and very rapid, Country playing. Likewise, Hank Garland was an astounding technician.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

This three-piece have been brought up before within these forums. Very chill instrumental group.

Tortoise has too many great tracks to count but “Gamera” is an all time favorite.
