That Matsumoku is envy inducing! Got any sound samples?
I had a separate post on a walking bass line for Mr. Moto, and my version is here: https://surfguitar101.com/downloads/details/928/.
I used the Matsumoku bass for this, with the bridge PU at first and then the neck PU after the piano break part. Since the neck pocket has been somewhat deformed from string tension over the years, I had to put a shim under the neck to lower the action. To reduce the tension I put light roundwounds (45-95) on it. I was afraid the E would be floppy, but it's OK.

A new addition. This is a mid 60s Framus Strato Star. I got it in rough shape, but it was all there except for 3 odd tuning machines. After taking a big bow out of the neck, leveling frets, refinishing the neck and cleaning and polishing, it’s good to go. It’s a short scale, which makes it very nice to play.

A friend rescued this Kingston bass (in pieces) out of a trash can and gave it to me. I put it back together and use it for recording. The sound is decent. An unusual feature is the laminated neck.
