Permalink FS: 1968 Mosrite Mark V (sold)

New Topic

Hi good surf people, I recently acquired this Mosrite and, being a Jazzmaster guy, it's just not working for me and I cannot justify holding on to it at this juncture.

It's been set up perfectly, new frets that aren't so darn low like the original ones, comes with the original case, and sounds and looks absolutely fabulous! Original Sunburst finish with some really amazing cracking patterns.

$2500 shipped (USA only). See pics below.

Pyro,
Your guitar looks to be a 1967 to circa 1969 model as best I can see from the two pictures. The truss rod at the headstock and no Ventures logo are indicative of 1967 and later. The pot metal tailpiece is another indication.
I once did a refret on a 1966 white Mosrite. It was everything I could do to sell it later on. Larger frets on a Mosrite devalue the guitar - as many Japanese dealers have told me. You might want to consider getting them ground down if you have difficulty selling the guitar at the price you've indicated.
Don't know what size frets you used. But they do look a bit oversized.
Most Mosrite players don't want "speed bumps" with larger frets on their guitar.
And -
It's a MARK I not a Mark V. The Mark I was the new name of what was the Ventures model. The Mark V was for the junior Ventures II model (as used by Johnny Ramone).
All meant constructively,
J Mo'

J’Mo,

Dude! Thank you for the info!!!

What’s a fair price/value in your opinion?

Paul

Johnny, is this one a Mark V as it is listed?

Seems like the Mark I’s are more valuable?

thanks for your help!

Paul,
Well - you didn't post pictures of the guitar's back, headstock, or case.
I'd see about getting those frets leveled down a bit.
In another post, I mention that a Mosrite refret should use mandolin frets or Dunlop ACCU-FRET 6S/6340 Flat fret wire - NOTHING ELSE.

I presume you have heard of Reverb and Ebay. Depending on your sales disposition, a price of $2,000.00-$2,500.00 - with a case that is in good condition seems fair market value. I've seen Mosrite cases alone go for $350-$500 depending on condition.
If you have a three-bolt neck (which happened in the late 1960s) with ferrules as opposed to the usual four- bolt with oblong backplate then you are at a bit of a disadvantage. Three neck bolt Mosrites are just more unstable with regard to tuning - speaking from hard experience. So - they are just less desirable.
That aside -
A dealer should be able to give you $1500.00 or better for the whole rig.
That's a $1,000 guitar and a $500 case to him. Less than that is just plain greed - move onto another dealer.
Hope this helps
J Mo'

Yep, it's the three bolt version.

Much appreciated.

Paul

I looked at that Mark V. The seller is delusional.
You are correct, the Mark I's are more valuable than the Mark V's. I just wouldn't go by the OZ seller's asking price as a value indicator for your Mark I.
Take a look at that guitar. The trem arm is missing and it has the quite unstable 3 bolt neck attachment.
Have you ever played a Mark V? You can't do spit on it but wank on power chords and maybe do some simple riffs. The seller's $2400.00 price is a bit too pricey. Better maybe at $1800-$2000 and that's for an "I-gotta-have-it" buyer. (Not me, BTW)
J Mo

Dang it! Well this one is definitely the three bolt Mark V, case is in great shape. Frets are like vintage fender style, not too tall and for me it plays really nice and the tuning is stable.

If anybody wants to make me an offer, please send me a PM!
