I've had these strings for at least 5+ years. I've dug through my emails and can't find what strings they are. I have no way of knowing. Hoping someone can help me. I broke my A string and would like to replace it. Alls I know is: these are BIG flatwound strings. That's how I like'em Big Grin

It may just be easier to buy a new set, like D'Adarrio Chromes 11 or 12 set or even Thomastic Flatwounds. If I had to guess I'd suspect these were Chromes.

I'm trying to avoid that since I've had these for so long and I'm very accustomed to them. I also like the feel of them and don't want to get a different set if I can avoid it. Plus I like how dull old worn strings sound/play. They're broke in just how I like them and I have the nut cut for these.

Looks like D'Addario Chromes to me as well.
Hope the new one doesn't sound too bright compared to the others.

The Scimitars

First off; very cool guitar. That matching headstock is nipples.

I must agree with all the previous observations that he colored ends show us that they are D'Addario brand Chromes, it's fairly difficult to judge the gauge in a photograph, but my best guess is that they're 12's.

You should buy a whole set and replace all of them, it's very easy and they will break-in super fast, just give them a decent stretch when you put them on and play them. They'll be dead in no time, unless you barely play. Also, if you put on just the A string then that one string will sound odd compared to all the rest, i would find that unacceptable on one of my guitars, i think most players would agree. You do you though.

Do D'Addario Chromes have no silk wrappings like the current ones I have?

Maybe I will get a new set..

Correct, Chromes have no silk wrap. This is purely speculation, but I get the feeling that D'Addario possesses some sort of a trademark on that color code. I've seen other brands use color coding, but it's never the same brass-red-black-green-purple-silver of D'Addarios.

Measure the strings with calipers and you'll find the gauge. My guess is also 12s.
Obviously change all of them. New strings are bright for a few days and then they go dead.
