"Here's to the man who drinks dark ale and goes to bed quite mellow. He lives as he ought to live and dies a jolly good fellow"

Whoa!!!

The backstory on how Nokie gave away this guitar to a customer was related here on SG101 in 2014 with a few more details:

Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin)
"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

I read the ad.
"... trade for the nicest Corvette or airplane."
That's a rather unrealistic expectation IMHO but more power to the seller. I hope he gets it.
Nokie had a few problems getting these out and delivered. I heard stories about years(<=yes plural)of waiting. I remember declining a direct offer from Nokie of $2000.00 at a festival here in New York 20+ years back. He wouldn't give me a definite delivery time nor state the maker (it turned out to be Charvel/Jackson)- red flags to me.
I managed to get one with a low serial number years back from a buyer who took the chance.
A corvette or an airplane??!! Maybe I'm sitting on a small fortune?

I have an apple core that my cousin’s chiropractor’s adopted son saw Bob Bogle discard. I’m not greedy; so I’ll trade for a used Toyota Camry or a rudder (preferably blue) that will fit a Cessna 150. Smile

The provenance is interesting, but let’s get real; an airplane?!?! I guess that if there was a die-hard Nokie fan out there, he might get a few grand, but any airplane that someone would be willing to trade for a guitar like that is an airplane I wouldn’t want to fly. A friend of mine owns some interesting guitars, Johnny Smith’s old Epiphone Triumph and one of Hank Garland’s old Byrdlands. We’ve discussed value and even the Byrdland wouldn’t get into Corvette territory.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

A Hitchhiker guitar with the same story is on Reverb.com. Its asking price is about $6600, and it is located in Canada, not Oregon. After all, a story is just a story. Here a link:
