I just purchased a new Fender American Professional Jaguar at a crazy low price I couldn't pass up. After reading a few reviews, some are crazy in love with it, some are just "meh".
My question is, has anyone here bought one and found the "classic Jag tone" to be underwhelming? I know the pickups aren't modeled after the 60's pickups...but in a gigging situation, will it still sound close to where an audience of surf fans will give it thumbs up?
I plan on installing 11-52 gauge strings, but not flat wound. I also play in a cover band so I'll be doing slight overdrive/distortion on the same guitar.
Thanks in advance. Link to guitar below.

Flat 12s make my Jag come to life. YMMV.

I just got mine. These pickups are a bit hotter and thicker sounding. I assume they must've used thinner AWG to get the DCR it has. I don't know if it's the classic jag tone but I love it. It definitely still sounds like a Fender. Hotter but not to the point of being overwound. I love all the sounds it has.

My 50th anniversary jag also got thicker and hotter pickups, but it works for me much better than the stock 62
So I guess it is more up to your than the the review writers) Just gig with it and tell us!
