Permalink Considering Mojotone '63 Vibroverb 6G16 Kit- Opinions Wanted

New Topic

I am looking for an amp for recording and practice, not gigging.
This amp looks like a strong contender and I like building amp kits. It will be used with a reissue Fender Reverb unit.
How is the quality of Mojotone kits?
Does the 6G16 make a good surf amp if high power is not required?

Thanks

I’ve heard good things about the quality of mojo kits and have considered them myself.

As for the brown vibroverb, I’m sure that you’ll get a lot of feedback here as the reissue was pretty popular, and I bet that there are some members with more faithful reproductions or even the super rare original.

In the early days of The ‘Verb, Mike, one of the other guitarists, used a vibroverb and it sounded really nice. They overdrive pretty early which didn’t help him in a loud five piece band, but you don’t need it in that context, so that’s probably a plus. I know Ferenc used one when he played with us (filling in for Jake on our first tour) and it sounded nice and warm through a strat with lipstick pickups. So, if you’re looking for something that falls into that bluesy-ish warm sound, it will be perfect. I’m sure at lower volumes (like recording) it can be tailored easily without as much cranking as other fender amps in that wattage range.
