Hey folks, I'm looking at a really clean D12F and am curious what the going rate may be. The seller wants me to make them an offer but the prices I've seen online seem a bit unreasonable ($500-$1k for a single speaker). It's been tested and has a clean bill of health. Any guidance is appreciated!

A good way to estimate a reasonable price for guitar-related items is to do an advanced search on ebay and check the sold listings. That way you see what things sold for, rather than what people hope to sell them for.

I would say $200 is the upper limit for "reasonable."
I've scored 3 K120s on craigslist and paid $50 for one of them and not much more for the other two, if I remember correctly. If you can't get that D120 for a price you're happy with, don't be afraid to walk away and keep looking. There are a a whole lot of those speakers out there.

As you say it's a clean and has been tested. First question would be how was it tested? An ohm test only confirms that the voice coil is intact but doesn't prove that there is no coil rub. A lot of things to consider to determine an offer price:
Gray frame or orange frame?
Is it an original cone? Or a recone?
Is it 8 ohm? or 16?
Is it a local private party? or online vendor + shipping?
Are the terminal connectors in good condition?
Is the dust cover clean and non-dented?
Was it one of the ones that have been on eBay for years that was supposedly played by Duane Allman?
If it's a gray frame, original cone, 8 ohm, in overall clean/playable condition I would expect to pay $250+

I paid 250.00 for a pair a couple years ago from a local guy. Reconed with the proper kit at some point decades ago.

Thanks for the comments. Ben, orange frame, original cone, 8ohm, connectors are good, clean cover with no dents.
Not the Allman speaker, this is a friend that has it, I just want to give him a fair price.

Then I'd say around $200 would be a pretty fair price for both of you. Maybe $150 if he's just getting rid of it.

On the receipt, signed by both parties, include 1. Seller represents the speaker to be without defects. 2. Buyer has right to return the speaker to seller for a full refund if, after installation into a amplified cabinet, buyer finds the speaker to be defective.
