Permalink New Surfybear Classic Day!

Thanks, guys! Cool

New video is currently processing and I hope to have it uploaded to YouTube tonight and I'll add it a new post in this thread.

It's mentioned in the video, but I daresay the Surfybear Classic can perform as well as a classic Fender Reverb Unit and actually seems more powerful. Super-duper happy with it!

Every Reverb unit I've owned had it's own "personality," so it takes some dialing in to get exactly what you want. A position of 6 on the tone of one unit may not sound anything like the position 6 on another. The Surfybear I have required some time to get the sound I wanted. But yes, it compares wonderfully to vintage tanks.

Nice video!
FYI, the Classic is not true bypass as Bjorn was trying to make it as close to a vintage Fender tank as possible (also not true bypass and can darken the sound of the amp).

Thanks - I only mentioned the true bypass for the metal-cased version and compact. My words got a little garbled when I then said, "this one doesn't have true bypass but I don't have a problem with that" so I can see where it might have seemed like I said, "this one does have true bypass" - note to self, must hydrate more when talking a lot. Yes

Cool Video Surfysonic! Congrats on The Surfy Industries classic. It's a great reverb ! and nicely made. I bought one last year an it is a keeper for sure.

I noticed in your video that you have the Surfy Ind. Classic sitting on top of your amp head and it's teetering off your amp head Handle. I did the same thing at first and it sounded weird. I tried to put 2 small pieces of wood under the feet of the Surfy Ind. Classic to raise over my amp head handle and it sounded a little better. I ended up just putting it flat on the floor after and it sounded way better in my opinion. Thinking the spring inside needs to lay parallel with the floor. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this? or if I'm just a weirdo

Thanks, Lavabreath! I'll see if I can put some support under the Surfybear Classic because keeping anything small and possibly chewable is problematic when having 4 dogs. Laughing

As it currently is, it sounds great but if it sounds even better on a more level surface, I'll definitely try to make that happen.

Mahalo! I was stationed at Peal Harbor on Oahu in my navy days in the early 90's then on to San Diego (Coronado Island, designated as North Island by the navy). Had the fortunate opportunity to spend time on Kauaii and Maui, too.

Hiya SurfySonic, I meant to write, Has anyone else noticed when they don't lay the Surfy Ind. Classic flat, if it sounds different ? I didn't mean to come off as a know it all..cause, I'm still learning every day. Sorry if I sounded like a know it all Kook.

Thank you for your service in the US Navy. That's awesome you got to be stationed at Pearl Harbor. My girlfriend was a paratrooper in the Army for 8 years. One of 19 women paratroopers at that time. She was also stationed in Oahu in the 90's as well. You might have crossed paths with her. She makes me so proud and she's Hot..

Until you do a blind test, assume that your impression is biased.

The SB Classic uses a pan that is meant to be mounted horizontally, designed to maximize the amount of travel of the magnet that the reverb's springs are attached to, inside the coil gap where it's suspended. Thus, if the pan sits at an angle that is not fully horizontal, the sooner the magnet can hit the insides of the coil or the springs will hit the chassis, resulting in an obvious crash.

The other thing, is the springs or the whole pan reacting to the rattle of the bass emitting from the speaker underneath, that may be taking away or adding energy from the reverb, but to what extent I don't know.
If that's the case and the effect is real, high enough rubber feet as opposed to wood blocks will provide better separation from that vibration.
