I've been continually polishing an arrangement of Korobeiniki, a Russian folk song used as the theme for Tetris. I thought I'd take an opportunity to use a demo to show off my new guitar - a Hallmark 65 Custom in Gold Sparkle.

Love it! More please. In my opinion Russian folksongs are some of the absolute best for the surf style. Great playing too! Sounds like there’s some dirt on that or is that the hot pickups? Dan —Daniel Deathtide |

Thanks, all! Dan, it's a fair bit of dirt but the pickups are super hot. It was recorded using the XLR out but the amp was set on 5 or 5.5. I overdubbed the solo break with the amp set at 9. — |

XLNT. Here's another Ruski song that was "Venturized" and played in surf style with the legendary Bob Bogle on lead and his trusted jazzmaster. "Here's to the man who drinks dark ale and goes to bed quite mellow. He lives as he ought to live and dies a jolly good fellow" |

That folk song was turned into Miami Beach Rhumba in 1946. When I studied piano as a boy in the 1950s Miami Beach Rhumba was one of the first songs my teacher assigned. The bridge to Miami Beach Rhumba is the same as the main melody of Korobeiniki. There are many versions of Miami Beach Rhumba on Youtube. Your version is fun. It was a thrill to hear the old rhumba as a surf song. Your guitar is too gorgeous. Insofar that guitars are girls, you have a supermodel. —Insanitizers! http://www.insanitizers.com Last edited: Jul 19, 2020 22:07:40 |
