Permalink IvanP playing a couple of mellow surf classics

I shot these two in the past 10 days in my back yard. Kept it simple and played my tiny battery-powered Vox DA5 digital amp, using the built-in reverb. The guitars were: 2004 Custom Shop Foam Green '60 NOS and 1997 Shoreline Gold '62 US reissue (with '84 Fullerton '62 reissue neck and Pure Vintage '65 pickups).

Hope you like! Thumbs Up

Ivan,
Some observations:
Nice take on Latina - your usual stellular playing.
Gutsy playing this outside in the open air; hope Gretchen Whitmer doesn't see this video Wink
Like a lot of us, you could use a haircut. Keep a good thought.

Loved the Quiet Surf version. So much I've just finished learning it. Always helps to have a few mellow tunes in the bag!

Thanks Ivan

Sweet stuff Ivan. Thanks for sharing!

"Casual Surf" Hey-that could be a band name. Big Grin

I liked them both a lot. Good job on "Quiet Surf". It's not easy to keep good timing with no rhythm to keep you on track, especially on a slow song like that. Nice harmonics. You also got some pretty decent tone out of that little amp.

I love those Jazzmasters!

Hi Ivan,

You’re one of my favorite Surf Guitar masters, and I feel grateful whenever you share solo performances from home. I most enjoy the fluidity of your playing through your flawless sense of timing. I have not yet seen you perform live, but I eagerly await that opportunity—hopefully in southern California, the next time you are on the road.

I’m laid-up in recovery after foot surgery from a home improvement accident, and these two videos have lifted my spirits.

Sincere best wishes to you.

wow, look at all the comments! Thank you very much, all! It is a tough time right now for many people, and I recorded these videos to provide a tiny bit of a relief and maybe even some comfort for myself but also hopefully for a few others. I'm really glad to see that may have been the case. Thank you in particular to TikiBobby, and wishing you a speedy recovery! Hope you're back on your feet in no time at all!

JohnnyMosrite - I've got the 'bushy bushy hairdo' thing going for sure! Gray rather than blonde, but hey, at least I CAN still have the 'bushy' part going! (And one of the nice things about private property is that Gov. Whitmer has NO say in what I do there! Big Grin )

Finally, Lorenzo, I'm starting to worry about your eyesight - or maybe even your mind? If we ran a Rorschach test on you, you'd see Jazzmasters in every ink blot! Hmmm ROTFL

What a difference a year makes. From living it up in Livorno with the Cossacks to playing to the birds in your own back garden! Still I suspect both have their merits. I enjoyed watching, thanks for taking the time.

Nice work Ivan. At first, I thought you were going to play Roundabout. Smile Truly, beautiful tunes and that little Vox is pretty good sounding.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

Thank for the time to make the video's and willingness to share them, Ivan! Enjoyable as always, and educational to boot.

I always seem to take away a new observation about your playing technique, particularly your left hand - you always have such graceful economy.

Bonus points on the song choices on this round. Fairly certain I've professed my love for the Sentinals and especially Latin'ia here before. Makes me happy to see and hear you play it.

PS - I am diggin' the corona do. Lookin' good, my friend! Lookin' good!

I thoroughly enjoyed those beautiful songs done which such great feeling. They had a kind of exotica feel to them.

Thanks for sharing- this made my day.
