Just throwing an idea out there.

Anyone interested in having official SG101 video conference meetups? Zoom, Google, and Facebook all support tele-conferencing. I realize not all of the members of SG101 are on Facebook, so maybe something we can all use together with different devices/operating systems?

I think it'd be a lot of fun conversing with people on here and placing a face to their nicknames.

Maybe once a week during the weekends so non-USA surf fans/musicians can join considering our time zone differences?

It could definitely be a lot of fun since surf gigs and events are on hold. Anyway, just a thought. I'm all for it.

I wouldn't use Zoom, but I'm up for a Google Meets.

Sure. Give us a date and time.

Gellert asked me to weigh in here. I don't really have any advice other than "if you build it they might come". So pick an app, a date and time, and see what happens. Refine as you go.

We do have a Discord server for SG101 and I think that supports up to 10 person video calls, but it also does text and voice too.

Otherwise maybe a Google meet might be worth a try. No matter what platform you pick some people won't be able or won't want to use it for various reasons.

The old IRC chats we used to do were a lot of fun, especially during a radio show. We could try doing that with Discord (even if it's just typing/text and not necessarily voice/video).

Hey Brian, I really appreciate you helping me out. I'd love to try the SG101 Discord server for webcam chat. How do I go setting that up and logging in? You can send me the info through Gmail if it's easier. Thank you!

I'm all set up on the SG101 Discord server - it was super easy. Here's a link to anyone that is interested in meeting for a video chat or possibly collaborating with our instruments.

OK, I installed Discord too and joined the group. (It really is super easy.)

So, do we wait if it works out spontaneously or is there a plan? Wink

Hi Simoncoil. Discord now allows up to 50 people to video conference at the same time due to COVID-19. I'm thinking Sundays would be best to have an SG101 Discord meeting. I also think it'd be great if we could get a few musicians from different surf bands to join online to make things interesting.

For us in the states, 10:00am PST would be 11:00am MST, 12:00pm CST and 1:00pm EST. For those in other countries like UK and EU, the times would be 6 - 8 hours ahead, like 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

If we can all agree to a Sunday, May 3rd chat, I think we should try it at the times I posted above to see how it goes Confused

Just a quick bump to remind, that some of us try to meet via Discord in a few hours today. Join in, if you want to!

It was nice meeting you, too, Dave. This was a lot of fun! We plan to do it again at the same time next week, and we hope to have more SG101 members join in. Svetlana left the chat just before I took this screenshot, but here's Gellert, Simon, and myself.

Great meeting and seeing you too, Dave! Our Discord chat was a lot of fun. I really hope more SG101 members would join us for the next one, the topics we discussed made us all smile and laugh the entire time. I took a quick screenshot just after you and Svetlana left us, Dave.

Many thanks to Silverflash (Tim) and Simoncoil (Simon) for the great conversation - we finally stopped talking two hours later! Yes

We are planning to do this again, same time, on Sunday May 10th for anyone wanting to get together and talk surf music! Click the link to join and get set up - SG101 Discord Chat.

Be there or be square! I'll make more time next week. But today, we had prior plans to go out to Amish country and get a bunch of seeds and plants for our Victory Garden. Stores around here are a bit thin on good, fresh vegetables.
