As if the yearly Gremmy awards aren't enough work, I want to compile a list of the top 100 surf records of the 2010s -- give credit due to those putting out great records when a time when surf has done a lot of great and interesting things while the rest of the world mostly looks elsewhere.
I don't have a formal process for this -- I'm basically taking suggestions, noticing trends, putting my own thumb on the scale here and there.
While it won't necessarily be a simple poll, I want it to mostly come from YOUR suggestions. What albums have stood out to you in the years 2010-2019? List as many or as few, I don't care if you listened to 2 or 1000 records. Feel free to send more if you think of more. Feel free to add a description of why.
It'll make my life easier if you send them to releases@stormsurgeofreverb.com, but go ahead and post them in this thread if you'd like.

IMHO Yawningman from the palm springs desert have turned out a few gems over the years!
But apart from them I don't follow much new music I'm afraid.
Laikka and the Cosmonauts drummer Janne Haavisto has a rely good solo album that is worth checking out.
Another finn who has written some good songs is Kepa Härkönen. His Spicey Tales and Spice tones album has some good songs, great playing and fantatsic tone! Love Slow surf and Lapache!!

I'm impressed at how many Aqualads - Treasures have shown up in submissions considering they're way on the earlier end of the decade. I'd expect some bias in favor of more recent stuff but it's clearly left a mark!

I have to agree on the mermen being the cream of the crop but ,have found their later releases to not be able to match the early 90's catalougue.
IMHO a lot of "surf" bands are ´rythmically challenged not due to lack of chops, but due to some perseved dogmas of what a good "surf" song should sound like.
But if you dig deep in Dick Dale's influences for example you get the middle eastern influences creeping in.
The one and only rule I think one should never brake is to keep vocalist far far away from any recordings.

I think Blue Transporter is only two years old and IMO one of their best. They also released Happy Halloween the same year, also great.

The Glasgow Tiki Shakers are still active, Samurai. Prior to the pandemic, they were playing once monthly at the Tonga Hut, in North Hollywood, with a few other gigs mixed-in. Last October, I saw them when they came up to the S.F. Bay Area for the KFJC Anniversary concert. In my opinion, they are one of the best bands around,, and criminally underrated.
