Permalink Anyone try the Tung-Sol 7581A power tubes?

Has anyone here tried the reissue Tung-Sol 7581A power tubes, specifically for Fender blonde amps? I'm curious about these since they say they have more headroom. Only interested in hearing about the 7581A, I'm already familiar with the tone of the other currently available power tubes. Thanks.

I've been confused by this tube before. I got a set years ago for my SLO100. What turned up wasn't well matched even though I'd paid TAD extra for that.

What's strange is that Tung-Sol's website doesn't list a 7581A, but it does list a 7581. The 7581 has lower maximum plate dissipation on the datasheet vs the 7581A.

It was years ago when I looked into it. I liked the valves but in the end I didn't believe they had more headroom than a 6L6GC and I think what I did dig up from emailing Tung Sol etc pointed at these being 7581's and not 7581A's.

Its so long ago it may be worth emailing Tung-Sol to clarify if you're thinking of trying them out.

The 7581's are discontinued. The 7581A is the current production tube. It's been around a while now and has some very positive reviews.

Oh Right! Guess they haven't updated their site? For what it's worth the 7581 was seemed well made.

Cheers,
For some reason that link didn't work for me initially.
Say's Item not found in catalog.

I did a search on that site for the 7581A, which does bring up 2 entries, but the datasheets linked from both entries are for a 7581, and not a 7581A.

Originally I was looking here https://www.tungsol.com/index.html
Which doesn't list a 7581A.

See what I'm getting at when I thought it was confusing?

Update: I finally bought a quad of the 7581A's for my brownface Showman. I'm gonna have to say thumbs down on these. They sound is a bit too flat and hi-fi sounding. They worked great for playing bass but I didn't like them for guitar. Not enough harmonics or midrange. I'm gonna go back to the TAD small bottle 6L6. They die pretty quick but the tone is much sweeter in the Showman. Nice and silky with a smooth top end.
