I have a soft spot for surf vocals. I find them great for adding variation to particularly long playlists. I've never heard of Johnny Kannis but I'll give him a listen. |

He's covering the Trashmen, for anyone who doesn't recognize the tune. And they were basically covering Chuck Berry. |

Sorry, I should have noted that he was covering The Trashmen (and I did know that, I swear). I've probably sullied the forum by posting it, but thought it was curious enough to warrant posting. Redfeather, when you say they were covering Chuck Berry, do you mean a particular song or insofar as a lot of other bands were also aping Chuck Berry? —The Mystery Men? |

It's pretty much Johnny B. Goode. Then again, most of Chuck's songs are pretty much Johnny B. Goode... It's not a straight actual cover in the way that Surfin' USA by the Beach Boys was but it is, at its heart, Chuck. |

Seems like he's Australian, he has a Twitter and FB page. And yes, he's covering the Trashmen's "King of the Surf". https://www.lanewaymusic.com.au/johnny-kannis —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

So, you really want me to believe that some people on this very forum don't know "King of The Surf" or The Trashmen? —Lorenzo "Surfer Joe" Valdambrini |

On the Double Crown release "Taking out the Trash," The Neanderthals I believe covered that Trashmen's track. I was lucky enough to appear on the on that tribute album's final track, "Maleguana" performing with the Penetrators. We recorded it in the middle of the night down in the Boatwerx. —Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps? |
