Today I bought a 1984 G&L Skyhawk! It's in good well-used condition and sounds and plays great. Man oh man do I love these MFD pickups. In fact, I think they're officially my favorite pickups. They have so much range, coupled with the PTB wiring, that I feel like this guitar can do anything!
Do we have many G&L players here? I bought this not because I needed another guitar at all but because I wanted something that came "from Leo." A pre-CBS Strat isn't gonna be it but this guitar is better anyway. It's just bitchin'.
I put together a surf medley to demonstrate how much balls this thing has, even with wimpy 9's on it. I'm playing it through a reverb tank > Vibroverb > closed back 2x12 cabinet > SM57 about 4' away. I look forward to hearing how thunderous it is when fitted with some 12+ strings. The only other change I want to make is a tort guard.
The add video link isn't working, so:

Now that, is a cool guitar. Although I am not currently playing one (you can't have everything), I believe G&Ls pickup where Fender left room for improvement. I wasn't aware that this specific version of the smaller body SC type guitars, the most unique and interesting of the G&L line, existed. It looks cool sounds great, really great, and it's not generic. Don't change a thing but the strings.

Wow, Ivan! He has my exact twinsy. Thanks for posting that. Now I really do need to get a tort guard, just we so don't accidentally swap guitars backstage somewhere...
