For anyone interested in the work of pioneering record producer and engineer Joe Meek, here are links to a 1991 BBC documentary about him, as well as to "Telstar", a fictional account of his life made in 2008.

"The only thing we have to fear is gear itself."

I remember that documentary well. Was it Arena?

I like the recordings of him talking to cats.

Yes, it was Arena.

Yeah, he used to go to graveyards with a tape recorder and try to pick up voices from the "other side". One night in one such graveyard he came across a cat that he thought was speaking to him in English and asking for help. And this is not the most bizarre Joe Meek story by a long chalk.

"The only thing we have to fear is gear itself."

possible note of interest James Corden plays drummer Clem Cattini (B 4 James got popular in USA).

Thanks for sharing! Pretty funny seeing James Corden in the film. Wonder if he’s ever talked about the role on his show.

I love me some Joe Meek. The Moontrekkers "Night of the Vampire" is still one of my faves.

Speaking of that, anyone have any tips on how to get that weird floppy verb sound on guitar like this?

Clem Cattini has an autobiography recently released call "My Life, Through the Eye of a Tornado". My gf's dad went to school with one of the Tornados and was invited to the book launch. I read his signed copy, which was a pretty entertaining read. Nice to read something different to the typical, "Started playing, joined a band, got successful, took loads of drugs, lost all my money, stopped taking drugs, got successful again" musical bios.

He doesn't mention much about Joe Meek though.
