Hello all!
New Member here!
I posted in my fave surf guitar thready already, and I just now found the forum where newbies introduce themselves. So I apologize for the faux pas!
So a big hello, and looking forward to learning about surf and spaghetti western. On that note how would you differentiate between the two? I sort of see surf as the original daddy-o, and spaghetti as an offshoot of 60's instrumental and surf music, no?

I'm not sure if any guitar-based instrumentals were used in any westerns prior to the Italian movies of the 60's. Is anyone aware? And if you're talking about the biggest and most obvious, the Sergio Leone movies scored by Ennio Morricone, I'm not sure if there was any direct influence at all.

Welcome to the forum.
Thank you!
And that's a great point you make, I never really thought about it...I guess I was thinking of the modern "spaghetti western" bands out there, they seem heavily surf derived to a certain degree...but yeah interesting.
Your point and implication that that style of music was invented by the musicians that scored those films is a bit revelatory to me. I am certainly no authority on the genre, but what you say rings true!
