I noticed after posting this in Surf Musician that this would have been more appropriate here. Please forgive a rookie, lol.
Hey kids, brand new to the forum (no clue how I've never been here before). Been a full time fretless bass player for about 25 years, and about to track my first solo album in July- a very heavily surf flavored album.
I'll be cutting tbe rhythm tracks on a bari, and was wondering if anyone had any hints, tips, tricks, warnings, etc that they could offer. The overall tone I'll be going for will be Junior Brown's "snap," but EQ'd more like the guitar on Brand New Cadillac from London Calling.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I've been playing bari guitars for about 30 years, long before they were popular. Whether you track with a mic'ed amp or direct, be sure to use substantial hi-pass filtering (maybe more than you would use with a standard tuned guitar). Low-mid "mud" creeps in quickly with bari guitars and can step on the bass pretty easily in a mix.

Thank you for theinput! Any particular pres or eqs you'd recommend? I've been looking at a Tech21 Qstrip to run in line with my bass rig anyway, seems like it would work well in this application too.
Also, would you recommend any particular speakers to use or avoid? Ones that handle the lower frequencies with clean definition?
