Permalink Dick Dale & The Deltones Miserlou Original Beats Per Minute?

New Topic

What was the original BPM on that song by them. I have heard it's 93, but that seems just a tad slow. Trying change my backing track to the right BPM.

It's up around 170. "Misirlou Twist" was a little faster.

I just timed it at 171! That’s fast.

There’s a thread on strat talk all about this song and its scales. I requested they talk about it here but apparently no one felt like it.

wow ….yeah is that the original or the 1970 one ?

I think that's even faster ...yeah I never though of it being that high a tempo....

If you set it at 170 in Audicity, it will be way too fast.

I played the original recording and its about 100 to 110 guesstimating
by counting the snare drum notes etc ….I could be wrong but its around there somewhere...just play it your way anyway Cool

The King played it at different tempos anyway

It starts out at 171 but drifts a bit, as humans tend to do.

If the beat you're using sounds wrong in Audacity, I think you just have the wrong beat. Try a four on the floor kick, typical 1-2, 1 surf beat on the snare, and a constant wash of cymbal (maybe quarter notes?)

Sam, you're completely off the board and in the soup with your guesstimating.

170 sounds fast - they say Gary Hoey's version is that tempo though, the original 1963 recording sounds slower to me...this is 160 and it even sounds a bit fast to me.

I did forget to subtract the 10 seconds with out drums in the intro, so yeah I was off a bit Laughing But this youtube track would be a good practice tool.
