Ok, please don't bar / kill me BUT on occasion it's just a lot more convenient for me to consume music when I'm out and about via Spotify. Yes, I'm talking like a lousy millennial.
Anyways, searching for 'surf rock' on it doesn't yield great results. To that end I'd love it if people could flag their Spotify presence here so I can squirrel it away in my library.
Please don't ostrich-eyes me...

I'm right there with you. Spotify is incredibly convenient. Having Artist/Title info available is huge when it comes to hearing new material.
It seems most people don't use it the way that I do, but that platform has lead me to artists I otherwise wouldn't have been exposed to.
I'm interested to see where this thread goes...

Not sure which of these links will populate, but I have built a playlist of instrumentals that's over 16 hours long. Its constantly being added to, and sure it could be longer but I tend to include my favorite tracks off an album as opposed to the entire record.
https://open.spotify.com/user/1215184361/playlist/34UTI8mOgaonJPXADacBWa?si=sLXyT-b6RhOSOmXISaJP_g
spotify:user:1215184361:playlist:34UTI8mOgaonJPXADacBWa
(If those don't work, just Search for me: Juan Aldava, and find the Surf Instrumentals Playlist)
I think Spotify is amazing for finding new music, collaborating with playlists and having it all handy. Nothing replaces my collection at home, but this is sure coming close. The only downer is im sure most of us on here can easily stump its search engine; but for every artist or album that isn't available chances are you're only a click away from discovering something new.
...not a millennial thing...just another way to get what you love.

Streaming is definitely the future for now - with access to over 40 million track as well. Many artists say thumbs down being the most streamed material hardly makes anything.
Will be interesting to see what happens when G5 comes out in a big way and how that will effect these kind of platforms.
I know YouTube is basically dominated by people 18 to 54 years old, not sure about Spodify - but I imagine its about the same age group, Old folk like physical media usually (Ok not all though)

I'm outside the 18 to 54 years old age group and I'll let you guess on which side , so I guess I fit the stereotype of not using Spotify, until today. I looked through Juan's list and I had to sign up. That's a fantastic list, Juan. Thanks for sharing!

Juan, that's a very impressive playlist!
I love Spotify as a consumer and have had a paid account for a couple of years now. You can find lots of the major modern surf bands on it. It's much harder to get the 60's stuff from all the vinyl comps, etc. I miss my ipod for that.

Man, this thread came along at the right time, finally gave me a reason to use Android Auto and Spotify in my newfangled new vehicle. Was hating Android Auto up until now!
Juan that is the COOLEST playlist, it's gotten me through 2 commutes this week so far, the hour+ each way just flies by, great stuff!!!!
Looking forward to checking out Strange Waters, Waterboarders, and everyone else....

Great responses, thanks all! This dude claims to have a surf playlist that is 79 ACTUAL HOURS LONG. How about that?

It has its uses, but Spotify absolutely fails for me. I need to control eveything! If I wanna skip, lemme skip. I love the idea of only putting select tracks up. Plus, almost zero of thr bands I love are on there, maybe like 5%.
I also love what The Mummies did with the “Shot Down” 7” and actually cut the song off in the middle with a band announcement to go buy the album!

One of my favorite features of Spotify has been to build playlists of favorite artists and run a radio station based off of them. I've gotten some really cool suggestions from that.
Conversely after a while of picking up your listening habits it will customize random daily playlists based on your tastes, and of course the "tastebreakers" playlist that recommends new artists, that may be just outside your periphery.

I can skip songs just fine.

May be the difference between a paid subscription vs non-paid?

I can, too, but I have (and LOVE) Spotify Premium. With the free version on PHONES you can't skip songs or even play albums... it's just always on shuffle. Ads, too, of course. When using the free account on a tablet or desktop you can skip around or listen to whatever you want, just still have to deal with the (many) commercials. At least that's the way it used to be. I lasted about 2 weeks before going premium and I haven't looked back.

Apologies I didn’t clarify - yes it’s the free iOS version. It actually lets you skip six times per hour, but does only play random. I just never really invested time into it, other than to search for a few bands and then give up. If I really wanna hear an album, I’ll buy it.
This thread has some fascinating info and opinions about Spotify:
