Permalink Any advice on a versatile guitar for a leftie?

Hey,

I'm left handed, so my guitar choice is pretty limited. I'm looking for a guitar that'll help me go from surf to garage rock to shoegaze.

Was thinking either a strat or a jazzmaster, maybe a mustang, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for guitars for me to check out.

As I said I'm a leftie so our guitars are often limited and expensive, hence seeing if anyone can recommend something that is versatile in the way I'd like and actually viable for a leftie like me to get!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Rondo Music always has a decent offering of lefty stuff and it's just as inexpensive as their righties. Their inventory does fluctuate, though.

I would get a Fender Stratocaster myself - its the best do it all guitar around.

Shop around on EBay ...buy a good used one made in Mexico for the best price per pound. They cost about $500 used give or take a $100.

Check for a while - sometimes the seller drops the price about a hundred sometimes near the end of listing time.

Check out the Reverend website. Their guitars are really versatile. And they offer some lefty models. I don’t work for reverend, I’m just a big fan of their guitars.

Jaguars are perfect for those genres of music you mention - there are some left handed models out there, so see what you can find.

Yup, that's my thoughts too! If instrumental surf is what you're interested in playing, I wouldn't consider anything other than a Jaguar, or a Jazzmaster. You'll get that characteristic bright tone that made the genre famous, right outta the box, without having to make any modifications to it. And it'll handle most any other styles you want as well. No, its not a Strat, and yes, folks like Dick Dale can make a Strat do surf all day long, but generally speaking, not without some aftermarket modifications,
