Home recording project - The Lost Planet Shamen. Second song I've attempted on the new set up. Sort of a psychedelic surf trip. All comments and suggestions welcome. Just...leave my sister out of it this time. Thanks! MJ

Cool

That's a pretty groovy trip, man! I like it. It has kind of an Ozric Tentacles feel to me.

One thing I'll complain about is the drums, though. They're not terrible or anything but I found the constant ride on the crash cymbal a bit much. I'd like to hear it with that switched to a mellower ride, at least for part of the time. Like the 2:20-2:50 or so part where it gets a little sparser, I could hear it switching to quarter or even half note ride cymbal, as long as it has a nice long wash. Then picks back up for a vigorous finish.

As they are now, the drums don't sound surfy to me. I can tell you put plenty of effort into them, though, so I'll also say that I appreciate all the tom fills and various little goodies you threw in. Thanks for sharing. I dig it!

Thanks for the kind words. Your criticism is spot on about the drums. One of my favorite things about surf music is the drums with all of the flavors, dynamics and colors. Unfortunately, I don't have a real drummer and the program I'm using (admittedly getting the hang of it still) is pretty limited in terms of variability. I'm thinking of ways to get around that. Pretty sure the wife will not let a real drum set in the house. Wink Dead Reverb Rock

Very cool tune. I love the tremolo in the beginning, and the baritone is really cool. You still need to clean up the lower mids a bit to loose some of the mud tho, but it's getting there.

Thanks! My wife said the same thing about my lower mids!
